Minor Tech Notes -- September 12, 2026

Locator: 51723MEOWWOLF.

OpenAI: Sam Altman says he has delayed the IPO until 2027 and is still targeting a valuation of $1 trillion. Meanwhile, Anthropic will likely release its S-1 before the end of October, and launch an IPO before Thanksgiving, with a $2 trillion valuation.

Locations
:

  • Santa Fe, New Mexico: House of Eternal Return, 2008
  • Las Vegas, Nevada: Omega Mart in Area 15, 2021. Look at the length of time between the two.
  • Denver, Colorado: Convergence StationSeptember 17, 2021.
  • Grapevine, TexasThe Real Unreal, July 14, 2023.
  • Houston, Texas: Radio Tave, October 31, 2024.
  • Los Angeles, California, 2026 to open.

So, there you have it, sandwiched between Las Vegas, Denver, and Houston, one has Grapevine, Texas. Amazing. A little town of 50,000. Where we call home. That was where we spent a couple of hours today, at the Meow Wolf in Grapevine -- Sophia, her friend, and me. Amazing. More fun than Disneyland. Seriouly.

By the way, Grapevine is closely connected to the:

  • NFL,
  • the Dallas Cowboys, and
  • the NCAA football organization.  Maybe we will discuss this someday.

Half of DFW is inside Grapevine's city limits, or something like that --- to say it's a short ride from the airport to the various Grapevine venues is an understatement.

Japan's Free Money

I have no dog in this fight. I don't care one bit about "federal" interest rates in Japan. I hardly care about "federal" interest rates in the US.

But the graph is awesome to watch. LOL.

And with that, I'm off the net for awhile. Taking Sophia and her friend(s) to the mall.

If you've never been to Meow Wolf, one word. GO!

$175 for two teens and one grandparent. Worth every penny.

Sophia said two hours; I said one. We were both wrong. We need three hours. For everything considered better than Legoland, better than Disneyland for two seven-year-old twins.

Upfront cost is what it is. After that, adult drinks competitive with downtown drinks. Kids run free for two, three, four, five hours. So much sitting space. Read, blog. Whatever.

Really, really friendly (maybe just Texas?) staff.

Highly, highly, highly recommend.

Off the net -- Tequila Sunrise, and some reading.

There's no legal reason why Apple and Alphabet (GOOG) couldn't merge but regulators would never allow it. Nor would shareholders approve such a "merger."

Ditto for Nvidia and Anthropic.

Apple -- AAPL -- Chart Of The Day -- September 12, 2026

Locator: 51720APPLE.

I think this is one of the most important questions an investor can explore today: Are the new products and the new chips that Apple is rolling out this year (2026 and 2027) optimized for any one chatbot?

With which AI in the news (Gemini, OpenAI, Grok, Anthropic, etc.) is Apple most closely related? In other words, exactly with what large AI names is Apple most closely aligned? There are then many rabbit holes one can go down. The next question: Geminin uses predominantly what chips and what operating system? The weekend is just getting started!

The chart of the day:

********************************
Apple Vs Dell

This is being re-posted because the AI links below are incredible; many are of  the "TLDR" nature. And, again, I'm not sure if the links work. Some of my extended family members say they cannot access the links. On my ten-year-old (?) iPad Pro, the links work incredibly well. Just saying. And, no, I'm not buying a new iPad Pro any time soon.

See disclaimer.

Updates

September 12, 2026: I simply do not have time to post all the information that AI can provide.

I will provide links where I can but I'm not sure the links work. Apple and Dell are now direct competitors for LDC / AI infrastructure at the enterprise level. Apple and Dell are perhaps the leaders in this particular area, and if not, will likely be the leaders sooner than later. I asked the question. The answer at this linkhttps://share.google/aimode/3dayD4qEDmwHDwNLP.
Again, it's absolutely fascinating and again, I'm not sure the link works; it works for me; some extended family members tell me it does not work for them.
If I am correct, that may help account for AAPL's incredible run-up in share price this past week, and a P/E of 38 which I have not seen in recent memory (the past twenty years?) if my memory serves me. Generally, AAPL's P/E runs about 28 - 34, seldom getting above 32, and every talking head on CNBC seems to repeat the mantra that a "30-P/E is very expensive." I think I've heard that for the past ten years. See disclaimer.
Some say the run-up in the share price of AAPL was this: investors see AAPL as a safe haven during this period of semiconductor (hardware) vs software. I have trouble believing that considering how much the mainstream business media seems to dislike Apple as an investment. At least that's my "take." I'm usually wrong, but it's a starting point.

September 12, 2026: after the huge run-up this past week, I was curious about Apple's revenues for latest quarter and estimates for next quarter (ending September 30, 2026). The current P/E for AAPL is 38 -- the highest I think I've seen in recent memory

The September quarter will NOT include revenue from any of the new models recently announced, and earnings could be affected by a) supply chain issues; b) folks putting off purchases until new products are available; and, c) folks putting off purchases pending holiday gift-buying. It's possible folks took advantage of all the sales prior to new models being announced at the beginning of the school year. The Mac Mini sales are a huge mystery.

Original Post

Fascinating story.

Link here.  The link: https://share.google/aimode/WJmBLUJnWzLFvCnNk

It has an "https" URL so it should work but when I share it with some of my extended family members they say they can't open it. I don't know.

This link may only work for me. I don't know. I'm trying to share the link with all but it seems "sketchy," if that's the right word.

I was curious because I was curious. how Dell stole the non-Apple laptop / desktop away from IBM and HP.

Dell (DELL NYSE) market cap: $360 billion.

Apple (AAPL NASDAQ) market cap: $4.85 trillion.

Wow, I wasn't looking. I see that AAPL has surged in the past few months.

Being announced over night two data points: link here. The link: https://share.google/aimode/UUnnLaYPRQPmB3J8f. Again, it has an "https" URL so it should work but feedback suggests it does not work for all. Don't understand.

  • Anthropic's IPO is getting closer and closer though delayed until October; rumor
  • Jensen Huang says he will be a $10-billion anchor investor in the IPO; fact (he said it, link here).

Quick: Anthropic's "full name" is Anthropic PBC. What does the "PBC" mean and how does that affect its business strategy???

The reason Anthropic shows up on a blog about Dell: Anthropic will have to duplicate what Dell did some years ago.

By market cap, the trillion-dollar club:

  • #1: NVDA
  • the #2 race: AAPL vs GOOG

The full list (which is already out-of-date) after this week's run for AAPL was from AI yesterday:

Top Ten Trillion-Dollar Companies
  • Nvidia (NVDA): ~$5.1 trillion  (at close, Sept 11, 2026: $5.26 trillion)
  • Alphabet (GOOG/GOOGL): ~$4.47 trillion (at close, Sept 11, 2026: $4.31 trillion)
  • Apple (AAPL): ~$4.38 trillion (at close, Sept 11, 2026: $4.58 trillion)
  • Microsoft (MSFT): ~$2.82 trillion

  • Did Apple Set The Price For The New iPhone Duo Too Low? September 12, 2026

    Locator: 51719APPLE.

    iPhone Duo.

This story is breaking right now.

Apple Store is closed in the US when this was posted on x overnight; the Apple store may be open now; I haven't checked.

But look at this: when the Apple iPhone Duo was open for orders in Taiwan, it sold out in .... wait for it ... two minutes. Two minutes.

    Link here

This being Taiwan, my hunch is that folks who sprang for the new iPhone Duo went with the highest-end model available.

My advice: when they go on sale here in the US, buy as many as you have room for in your garage, and then immediately offer them for re-sale, in an unopened box. See disclaimer.

Seriously, this is going to be an incredible story to follow.

Might President Trump Throw Huge Amounts Of Money To Integrated Oil And US Refiners? Septemper 12, 2026

    Locator: 51718REFINERS.

There's an article out there that suggests President Trump is weighing the Defense Production Act to increase production of US refined products within the continental US.

    Link here

I doubt there would be one sentient congressman/congresswoman/senator (exceptions: Bernie and the AOC crowd) who would come out publicly against doing this.

There are only two options that I see but both options will have the same headline: US government throws huge amount of money to US integrated oils and refiners hoping something will stick. The two options for the integrated oils and refiners:

    • building new refineries (good luck with that); and/or,
    • increasing production through improved efficiencies at current refineries (it's hard to believe the refiners could produce that much more by such improvements -- but hope springs eternal).

There will be strings attached to any US government financial aid but the headline will be enough to provide short-term support for US integrated oil and refiners. See disclaimer. This could be the refinery headline prior to the November mid-term election. Again, the president can sign an executive order but the US Congress controls the actual amount of money that could be provided.

With diesel at all time highs, something needs to be said. I doubt anything can actually be done before the elections.

According to the EIA, approximately 80% of diesel produced in US refiners stays in the US; 20% is exported to global markets. Mandating less diesel exports could not be very much but carries a huge risk of a huge recession in Europe.

We may see a lot of headlines that China can produce diesel from coal, but so-doing won't make much of a dent on the availability of diesel and/or the price of diesel. One wonders to what extent the diesel crunch is hurting Iran's / IGRC's military capabilities.

China can use coal-to-diesel production to protect its economy from severe oil price shocks, but it cannot use it to significantly lower the everyday retail price of diesel.
While turning coal into oil is highly profitable during international energy crises, the total amount of fuel these plants can make is simply too small to shift overall domestic price (or apparently availability).
