The permits/wells on that 9-well pad, sited west to east, with four horizontals appearing to run north, and four horizontals running south; it appears a horizontal is yet to be drilled for #40231, but I could be wrong:

    • 2023: being re-entered to run sidtrack #2 --huge jump in production, from 500 bopm to 34,000 bopm; cum 412K 6/26; this well was first drilled in February, 2009;

World Of Pain At The Open For AI Stocks? Oil Up; CVX, PSX, COP All Up -- August 18, 2026

Locator: 51443INVESTING.

WTI: In the last few minutes both WTI and Brent have gone over a new threshold -- $85 for WTI and $91 for Brent.

CVX: finished up $2.67 yesterday and in pre-market trading today, is up $1.80, trading at $204.50; the 52-week high for CVX is $214.71, so we have a bit of room to run. Whoo-hoo.

Bombing Iran? His handlers now say that President Trump was only trying to get Oman's attention. He would never really bomb Oman, would he?

Now we know: Andrew Ross Sorkin (CNBC) uses an Apple MacBook Pro.

Some folks may not want to watch the market today. It could be a doozy at the open. We'll get to that later.

At CNBC ... everybody now has multiple screens ... the guest has two screens; Becky Quick has two screens; and, Andrew Ross Sorkin has ... three screens.

According to one chatbot: Andrew Ross Sorkin's exact on-air laptop setup on CNBC's Squawk Box is not officially confirmed as a matching trio of any single brand, though he has historically used an Apple MacBook Pro for his personal reporting and writing work with The New York Times DealBook. For serious investors (that does not include me) one might want to query a) what is the New York Times Dealbook; and, b) can anyone purchase the Dealbook? A short snippet:

The DealBook Morning Newsletter: Anyone can sign up for the flagship weekday briefing free of charge via the NYT Newsletter Directory
It delivers the core economic and market breakdowns straight to your inbox before the market opens. To read the full-length, unrestricted articles on the web or via the app at the NYT DealBook Section, you will eventually hit the standard paywall. This requires a standard New York Times Digital Subscription. Which I have, surprisingly enough. A Christmas present for my wife.

Chatbot Genies for CNBC "Squawk Box" -- it looks really, really cheesy ... if you grew up with graphic novels, comic books, and haven't read a "real" book in ages, you may enjoy the new format.

Having said that, this is truly amazing. Becky Quick was "out" last week ... and before coming back on the air this week, she had her AI avatar review every "Squawk Box" episode from last week and then had her avatar summarize the top business news for the past week. She could probably be brought up to date while Becky was getting "made up." It was pretty impressive. Oh, by the way ... this was being on an Apple laptop. I do have to admit, I was captivated by the whole segment. Yeah, it may go somewhere ... the avatar actually seemed more believable, more knowledgeable than Becky Quick herself. This was the longest segment I have ever seen on "Squawk Box."

 Investing News

Apple: this may be interesting to watch today. It appears that Apple is farther along with cameras on their AirPods than was being reported; huge challenge to Mega glasses .... and speaking of Meta .. that huge court case in California opens today ..... it looks like NASDAQ AI tickers could fall 3% to 5% at the open ... I use INTC as my bellwether and INTC is down over 4% ... down $4 .... trading below $100 ..... my hunch, value investors are going to swoop in ... I'm fully invested but I can always find some "new" cash to buy stock if it get that cheap ... see disclaimer .... this is not an investment site ... Dow is moving up ever so slightly ...

EIA reports huge build in US oil inventories ... but attacks in the Mideast are pushing price of WTI / Brent up to new recent highs ...

In the Bakken, the NDIC reported the completion of six DUCs ... the largest number in quite some time ... and active rigs are at 33 .... above the 27 that we were recently seeing ....

The WSJ has a couple of interesting articles ... Synchrony, the credit card company, has partnered with OpenAI to allow Synchrony customers to shop directly inside the chatbot .... I wouldn't care one way or the other ... but somehow I ended up with a Synchrony account some years ago ... I seldom use it ... but .. the link is here ...  there's really a "fun" article on AI and "Move 37" when everything changed for AI .. link here ... okay .... my favorite article overnight .... a Buy Side article in The WSJ on Apple's Air Tags .... link here ... I may have a stand-alone post on Air Tags .... one can never have too many Air Tags ... the good news ... we have now moved to Second Generation Air Tags .... and they now seem always on sale .... about $25 / tag ... but look at this .... Apple now used "crowd sources" to find your lost object for you. This is amazing ...
