CNBC
First hour: Jim Cramer

The market: link here.

On another note: Results out. Target in deep doo-doo.  Pre-market TGT down 8%.

  • food
    • WMT: 60%
    • TGT: 20%
  • the big three for food (Cramer's list)
    • Costco
    • WMT
    • Amazon

Cramer: very, very negative on Target. Every time Carl Q and Cramer try to change subject, get off Target, they keep coming back to TGT. Cramer is very, very upbeat on Walmart. Challengers viewers to visit Walmart this weekend to see how prices have come down.

Costco: will introduce Costco Kirkland corn flakes if brand name prices don't come down.

And: Apple.

A bit over-bought? Copper,

RBN Energy: why oil, gas, and NGL infrastructure investment is soaring while production growth is flat.

There’s never been any reason to question the drivers for energy infrastructure development — until now.  Historically, the drivers were almost always “supply-push.” The Shale Revolution brought on increasing production volumes that needed to be moved to market, and midstreamers — backed by producer commitments — responded with the infrastructure to make it happen. But now things seem to be different. U.S. energy infrastructure investment is soaring across crude oil, natural gas and NGL markets and, as in previous buildouts, midstreamers are bringing on new processing plants, pipelines, fractionators, storage facilities, export terminals and everything in between.
We count nearly 70 projects in the works. But crude production has been flat as a pancake, natural gas is down, and lately NGLs are up — but as you might expect, only in one basin: the Permian. So what is driving all the infrastructure development this time around? In today’s RBN blog, we’ll explore why that question will be front-and-center at our upcoming School of Energy: Catch a Wave. Fair warning, this blog includes an unabashed advertorial for our 2024 conference coming up on June 26-27 in Houston.

Think About This -- How Fast Things Are Moving -- Nvidia Reports Earnings Tomorrow -- May 21, 2024

Locator: 47153TECH.

I'm sure this happens all the time, but I've been blogging since 2009 (actually, 2007, but that's another story for another time) and in all those 15 years (actually, 17 years), I don't recall ever posting a story like this one ever before. For me, this is a first. [Later: Jim Cramer says Amazon has not paused orders of Nvidia’s blades.] May 22, 2024, Reuters "confirms," Amazon has not paused Nvidia orders.

From The Street:

Nvidia (NVDA) , the undisputed leader in AI-chip production, is expected to post net income of $13.2 billion, or $5.63 a share, for the fiscal first quarter ended in April. That's a fivefold increase from the tally in the year-earlier period.

Group revenue, meanwhile, is estimated at $24.6 billion, triple the year-earlier figure, with quarterly sales expected to top the $30 billion mark by the end of its current financial year in January.

 Note:

Ticker, compare with AAPL, five year:

What amazes me is the guys that tell me they "read all the time," completely missed this one. For five years, all I've heard about on CNBC, was AAPL, it seems or INTC, but not one mention of NVDA until relatively recently.

Let's take a look at Jim Cramer, 2018. Link here.

The NDIC hearing dockets are tracked here.

As usual this is done very quickly and using shorthand for my benefit. There will be factual and typographical errors on this page. Do not quote me on any of this. It's for my personal use to help me better understand the Bakken. Do not read it. If you do happen to read it, do not make any investment, financial, job, relationship, or travel plans based on anything you read here or think you may have read here. If this stuff is important to you, and I doubt that it is, but if it is, go to the source. These are cases, not permits.

A Lot Going On At The Moment -- May 21, 2024

Locator: 47151TECH.

Blogging will be hit and/or miss today due to family commitments, but I was blown away when adding to my CRH today (by rule, no recommendation, see disclaimer) how incredible the tech sector is doing. Wow.

Most interesting "question" to explore today: why is Target cutting prices? My first thought, they won't lower prices below costs. So, one of two things is going on. More later. I think you will find it interesting.

The tickers:

  • QCOM: up $3.33; up 1.7%; trading just above $201.
  • MSFT: up $6.29, up 1.5% trading just above $431.
  • NVDA: flat
  • AMD: down $1.95; down 1.2%; trading just under $165
  • MU: down $1.68; down 1.3%; trading at $127
  • AAPL: most surprising, holding its own, iup $1.14; up 0.6%; now trading over $192 -- who wudda thought?
  • INTC: down 46 cents today; down 1.5%; trading at $31.64.

MU: just out today, from Reuters --

INTC chart, the once-darling of Wall Street. Folks on CNBC are still recommending it. See this post: wiki has updated its "transistor count" page.

All for now.

Oh, one last note. After years of watching CNBC, and most recently, watching CNBC very, very closely, it's interesting to hear comments from analysts representing banks and insurance companies. Completely different than analysts representing tech companies. Just an observation.

RBN Energy: Energy Transfer takes unconventional approach with Blue Marlin project. Archived.

Energy Transfer, which is championing its Blue Marlin Offshore Platform (BMOP), may have been the last developer to pursue its critical deepwater export license, but that doesn’t mean it’s out of the hunt. Of the four offshore crude oil export projects, BMOP stands out as the sole brownfield initiative, which should hold down costs and expedite its construction timeline. Further, a recent non-binding agreement with TotalEnergies underscores the industry’s interest in this unusual but compelling facility. In today’s RBN blog, we explore Energy Transfer’s unconventional approach.
