No New Permits; Three Permits Renewed; Huge WTI Draw Today Lifting WTI Over $81 -- August 29, 2023

Active rigs: 34.

WTI: $81.16. Jumped a dollar / bbl late today. "Surprise": huge draw. Refiners pulled as much oil as they had room for in their own storage tanks anticipating off-shore rigs in the gulf shutting down due to huge hurricane. 

Just think: this won't be a problem when the US is 100% wind / solar, and no longer needs oil. Those windmills / turbines in the gulf will turn faster than ever during hurricanes providing endless amounts of electricity for the entire country.

No new permits.

Three permits renewed:

  • Neptune Operating: three Gustafson permits, Buffalo Wallow, McKenzie County.

Nothing like a JOLTS report to JOLT the market. LOL. This was not on my bingo card today -- another great day.

  • NVDA: up $16.15. Later: up over $17.00
  • AAPL: up $2.06. Later: up a stunning $3.00.
  • AMD: up $.267.
  • TSM: also up today.
  • VIX: below 15.
  • WTI: up slightly, but trading over $80.

Original Note

Yields are dropping.

Equity indices going higher.

JOLTS disappointing.

Smallest job opening since March, 2021.

Job openings: 8.8 million vs 9.5 million expected.

So far, not much effect on the market, although indices are fractionally higher. 

Next GDPNow estimate: August 31, 2023.

Apple iPad Pro -- 2024

Anticipation: the new Apple iPad Pro will be released in 2024. It will not be announced in September. I have the latest version of the iPad Pro. It’s quite incredible and shows no “aging.” It is the 3rd generation iPad Pro released in 2018, five years ago.

But, yes, I will get the new 13-inch iPad Pro. Only when you get “hooked into” the Apple biome do you really realize how robust that environment is. Literally, every Apple product is tied into each other. Seamlessly. I don’t have to set  up a  thing.

When I get home from the library, all my MacBook Air work magically appears on my 27-inch tabletop iMac and my 12.9-inch MacBook Pro exactly where I left off in the library.

The huge screen: not only is it huge, but the crispness and clarity is incredible.

NVDA.

After being in the red pre-market , it is now up 1%. Up almost $5 / share.

Same with AAPL: up about half a percent. Completely unexpected.

"Oils." Disappointing. Not surprising.
