Update On US Respiratory Illnesses -- August 29, 2023

Locator: 45500COVID.

We're coming up on the 34th week of the current calendar year. Positive tests for influenza A continue to fall, but the season begins shortly before the 40th week.

Visits to outpatient clinics for respiratory diseases of all causes are starting to increase ever so slightly.

Percent of deaths due to PIC (pneumonia, influenza, and Covid-19) are starting to increase, though not significantly (in the eye of the beholder).

Clots

I don't know if folks recall the clots associated with Covid-19 or the vaccine. That was a "story" early on in the pandemic.

RSV and the new RSV vaccine are very similar with regard to clotting (needs to be fact-checked). My wife experienced significant superficial clotting after receiving her RSV vaccine last week, something she had not experienced from previous non-RSV vaccines. The clots resolved quickly and no post-vaccine sequelae.
