A Little Deeper Dive -- AAPL -- Apple -- October 8, 2026

See disclaimer.

Options trading: this appears to be a new segment on CNBC -- interruptions throughout the day regarding trends in options trading. If so, it appears this new segment has been around for the past month or so. Perhaps it's been here forever and I simply missed it.

Query:

"Did I hear on CNBC today that the October option expiration trading suggests that AAPL could trade above $345 this month which would be an all-time high?"

Reply:

Recent options trading activity and CNBC commentary suggest that heavy open interest near the $345 strike—Apple's previous all-time high—indicates traders are positioning for a potential breakout this month.

For chartists: with a p/e of around 38. It's forward p/e is not particularly different, many see as 35. Many analysts feel more comfortable with a p/e of 26 - 30 for AAPL, it's been my experience that AAPL generally runs about 32 which many CNBC analysts consider "expensive."

Also, did you note the market cap? Whoo-hoo! $4.93 trillion. For comparison, NVDA has a $5.67 trillion market cap. MSFT? $3.94 trillion.

California Dreamin' -- Latest Update On The California Bullet Train -- October 8, 2026

Locator: 51887BULLETTRAIN.

To be filed under "hope springs eternal."

When California voters first approved the high-speed rail project by passing Proposition 1A in November 2008, the total cost for the entire Phase 1 system (connecting San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim) was estimated at $33.6 billion.

If you go back even further to the project's very earliest conceptual planning in 1999 by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, the initial baseline estimate for the statewide network was just $25 billion.

Seriously, in 2040, is there really anyone going to take the train from LA to San Francisco? My hunch: yes, only because commercial air will literally not be able to keep up with demand.

Huawei

Link here.

I have absolutely no interest in this. What caught my eye? "...EV sales slow."

But now Huawei only sells several million smartphones outside China each year, Yu said. He added the company plans to expand its HarmonyOS operating system to overseas markets in the next one to three years, and hopes China’s chip manufacturing capacity will one day enable overseas sales of devices with self-developed chips.

Will need to pivot to hybrids, which are simply ICE engines with batteries to supply limited increase MPG.

Most interesting with regard to TSMC's growth: it continues to accelerate (not slowing down, not plateauming, not decreasing) -- I honestly don't think talking heads on CNBC "get it":

There's a reason D. A. Davidson is tripling its price target for Micron.

MICRON: The most "interesting" Mag-7 stock right now? Micron -- MU goes up almost 5% yesterday, holds its gains overnight, and a major investment firm triples its price target on the stock -- and folks still talk about the allure of bonds. Okay. In one year, MU has gone up 450%.
