College Women's Soccer -- November 10, 2025

The reason for this note:

  • middle granddaughter is a sophomore / ROTC cadet at Stanford this years (2025).

Schedule

The 44th annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played December 5 and 8, 2025, at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri with the University of Kansas and Kansas City Sports Commission serving as hosts.

The national championship match will take place at 7 p.m. EST on Monday, December 8, 2025, and will also broadcast live on ESPNU.

A family note (to be explained later):

This was just posted one hour ago. Both Stanford and Vanderbilt are in the national championships -- College Women's Soccer.

Stanford won the ACC championship; and Vanderbilt won the SEC.

It's possible -- depending on the brackets -- they could end up playing each other.

Link to teams selected. Like men's basketball, March Madness, the women's soccer national championship starts with 64 teams:

The ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) is a collegiate athletic conference in the United States with 18 member universities that compete in NCAA Division I sports, including football. Current members include Boston College, California, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, SMU, Stanford, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. The conference was founded in 1953 and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The SEC (wiki):

Note: the US equity market will be open tomorrow but the US bond market will not be open tomorrow, Veterans Day.

Today: I certainly hope Nancy Pelosi took advantage of the dip last week. Certainly she knew the government was shut down (we all did) and probably knew from her friend Chuck that the Minority Leader of the US Senate was losing control of his caucus and that likely the shutdown was coming to an end. Folks had a limited amount of time to take advantage of that dip last week.

Buzz: the government shutdown could end as early as Thursday but my hunch -- not sooner than Friday, COB.

Micron:

Micron, compared with Nvidia, time frame, one year:

BRK-B down again today, on a day the Dow was up almost 400 points, and the NASDAQ was up over 500 points, the S&P 500 up 103 points.

Veterans Day

In anticipation of Veterans Day, I'm pulling out my old uniforms.

I have dozens of patches to place on my war-fighting uniforms (flight suits and fatigues).

In addition to a patch with my name or "call-sign" I have three additional patches to place on my flight jacket or flight suit. By the way, my "call-sign" was NODAK (pronounced "no-dak, emphasis on first syllable").

On the left shoulder / upper arm: the US flag.

On the front, right chest: the patch of the wing to which I was assigned.

On the right shoulder / upper arm: the patch of the squadron to which I was assigned.

Tomorrow, I will wear the wing patch that I was issued / wore when assigned to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey.

Patch, 7440th Composite Wing --

Below, the aircraft assigned to the composite wing, a warfighting wing, according to wiki.

On another note, a photograph taken a few ago for a Veterans Day event at the high school in Grapevine, TX, where our middle granddaughter was a student at the time. One of my favorite photographs.

Jargon: Cadastral -- November 10, 2025

Locator: 49386B.

This is really, really cool.

In eighteen years of following the Bakken fairly closely, I had not come across this word: cadastral.

I have no idea how I missed that word all these years.

But today a reader sent me a note in which he/she used that word. I was embarrassed. I had not seen that word before, and if I had, I skipped over, missed it (if so, my bad, sorry.

For those who may have also missed this word:

Another word that I learned from the Bakken years ago: riparian, and interestingly, the reader used "cadastral" when reminiscing over the high-water mark controversy of some years ago, which, I suppose could be called a riparian issue. Pretty amazing how things all seem to come together.

Wow, I love this blog. LOL.

Note: Nextera -- largest energy company in the world in its sector.

EV Sales -- November 10, 2025

Locator: 49384EVS.

The stories below tell me two things:

  • the pie (global EV sales) may or may not be getting bigger but more automakers are entering the sector, certainly leading to more competition, and perhaps smaller slices of the pie for the automakers;
  • in the US, presence or absence of tax credits will make or break many EV manufacturers.

Monday -- Government Shutdown -- Near The End -- Apparently It Will Be At Least Another Week -- November 10, 2025

Locator: 49382LNG.

LNG: year in review -- link here. No one saw this coming ten years ago -- or whenever it began -- I lose track of time -- but when I started blogging the US was building LNG import terminals. Somewhere during the Bakken revolution an excess of natural gas became a huge story and the rest was history.

Investing: I didn't look at the market last week --

-- maybe starting ten days ago, I forget, I quit looking at the market -- minor exceptions -- because the market was selling off, I was fully invested, no cash to buy anything, and all I heard was "this is the worst pullback since April, 2025."
So, today, with the news that the government shutdown may be coming to an end -- it will certainly be over by Thanksgiving, if not this week -- I checked to see how the market was doing. Most surprising, that "pullback." Way, way over-hyped. Didn't amount to anything and today we're close to where we were -- in less than four hours of trading.
By the way, did any conservative news site tell us how much money Nancy Pelosi lost last week with "the biggest pullback since April, 2025"? Crickets.

Palantir: one exception with regard to the market.

I completely missed Palantir (long, sad story) and said I would never get in. But the pullback last week was so ridiculous, so just to prove a point, I started a position in Palantir. It will never move the needle in my portfolio but at least I can now say I own Palantir. LOL. Up $13.45 / up 7.45% today. Just saying. I'm not a market timer by any means, but this was just so incredibly stupid -- the pullback in Palantir.
