Frog On a Log In Pot Of Water Over a Fire

First, the basic cable or basic satellite connection (required).

Then, a basic streaming service, Hulu or YouTube TV (pretty much required).

Then, the Amazon Firestick and Amazon Prime Video (nice add-ons).

Then, Apple TV -- simply because.

Then à la carte: Netflix or HBO (occasionally a must-have).

I noted that because I see Netflix is now streaming a Creedence Clearwater Revival documentary.

Netfllix: only $9.99 / month.

Reality Sucks -- October 1, 2022

My wife who just got back from San Pedro, CA, tells me gasoline out there is $6.89 / gallon.

Here, in north Texas, DFW area, gasoline tonight is $2.89 -- my wife tells me that -- she filled up tonight.

She says California is nice but not at those prices.

This is her last trip ever to California to her parents' home. Another chapter in our life, closed.

Buffett Sees Something "Everyone" Is Missing -- October 1, 2022

Warren Buffett has noted something few others have noted. Two points follow:

  • what Buffett sees now will be obvious some years from now;
  • this is different than what he saw when he bought Burlington Northern.

Re-posting:

Buffett

For perspective if I recall correctly, Buffett bought Burlington Northern railway for $25 billion. At the time, Buffett said he "bet the company on that deal."

Now, decades later, he spends an equal amount on oil

My hunch: Warren and I have invested the same proportion of our investment portfolio in CVX over the years.

Amazon

Link here:

Amazon, which booked net losses in Q1 and Q2 totaling nearly $6 billion and whose shares are down 38% from their high in July last year, is undertaking large-scale efforts to cut costs – including commercial real estate costs.
It is closing or cancelling 44 warehouses across the US; it’s halting construction on six office towers, and won’t start construction on a seventh. And now it emerges that it plans to close four of its five call centers in the US and switch those customer service representatives to working from home. Amazon currently operates five call centers in the US. Kennewick, WA; Lexington, KY; Phoenix, AZ; Huntington, WV; and Houston, TX. It plans to close four of them. Either the Houston or the Huntington facility will likely remain open, according to Bloomberg
Amazon confirmed to Bloomberg that the call center work will be shifted to work from home. Even before the pandemic, it already allowed some call center workers to work from home.
