John Prine, The Wallflowers, Dianne Pearce Writes -- The #2 Reason Why I Love To Blog -- September 14, 2019

One day ago, in The [London] Mirror, September 13, 2019:
'Leader' of Jamal Khashoggi hit team disappears and 'may have been poisoned'
Yes, I was thinking of Khashoggi tonight after today's news that Iran hit Saudi's largest export terminal.

If a prince can khashoggi a journalist and get away with it can you imagine what that prince (MSB) has in store for Iran? Something tells me a lot of folks in the mideast are on edge tonight.

LOL.

Trump has a long memory. He will remember that Iran shot down a $100 million US drone flying in international airspace. Three strikes and you're out.

On another note: it was reported last week that the US "briefly" became the #1 exporter of oil and petroleum products. A lot of naysayers said that was an anomaly. LOL. Abqaiq  is on fire. We'll see next week how this plays out. Let's see if oilprice, The WSJ, or anyone else has updated the story. Not really.

A week ago David Muir did not know how to spell Abqaiq; this next week he will mention that complex by name a half dozen times. Hillary will tell the story how she once flew into Abqaiq under heavy artillery fire. I think Connecticut's Richard Blumenthal served with the US Marines in Abqaiq.

But how the tables have turned. From The WSJ:
It also underscores the dramatic change that has occurred in the U.S., which is now the world’s largest crude producer and among the top exporters of oil and gas.
For the first time in decades, President Trump would be in the rare position of having the ability to help stabilize the oil market in the event of a prolonged outage. That’s a remarkable turnaround from the 1990s and 2000s when the country had far greater dependency on foreign crude.
It's too bad President Obama killed the Keystone XL -- that would have been a huge insurance policy for the US, and the entire world. But Obama knew best. What a doofus.

The [London] Mirror. When the US Air Force sent me to Yorkshire, England, some years ago for multiple extended deployments, on Sunday mornings, I would run -- yes, run -- down the hill to the local mom-and-pop corner market store and buy bacon, eggs, bread, and three newspapers, The [London] Times, The [London] Guardian, and a tabloid, usually The Mirror. Or maybe The [London] Telegraph. I forget. But two newspapers for sure.

Full Circle

Today was the first day of the two-day Armadillo Water Polo Tournament in Keller, TX. Driving home late tonight after the last water polo game I heard "Unlonely" by the Wallflowers on FM KXT 91.7. And that took me to Dianne Pearce and that that brought me full circle to John Prine.

But now, a bigger problem. "One Headlight" reminds me of another song, and it's driving me nuts. I can't think of that song. I'll eventually identify it but it might take some time. Until then it will drive me nuts.

So, How Are The "2009" EOG Bakken Wells Doing? -- September 14, 2019

There are two charts on this page; the data is the same. The first is sorted by date; the second chart is sorted by total crude oil production. The second chart is more "entertaining." It begins with a well that has produced nearly 3/4ths of a million bbls of oil.

For now, this is the entire list of EOG wells that had an IP test date in 2009 (the chart starts with IPs in 2010 and goes into 2008). My database has every EOG permit and this particular chart is sorted based on the NDIC status date. This means that there could be EOG wells that have an IP date in 2008 that do not show up in this list. I have not completed the entire database for EOG.

This all started as an exercise for another reason.

Disclaimer: there will be typographical and factual errors in this spreadsheet. If this is important to you, go to the source.

Points of interest:
  • all wells met or surpassed expectations as "advertised" publicly
  • they have produced pretty much continuously for ten years and will easily be in production for 35 years
  • most are now stripper wells
  • cumulative production is huge; by any measure these are huge wells
  • cumulative production is really, really huge if these are mostly one-section spaced wells (I'll sort that out later)
  • there must be a reason EOG has kept these stripper wells (haven't closed them in or sold them)
