US Investors By Asset Allocation And Demographics -- October 9, 2025

Locator: 49342INVESTING.

From CNBC this morning. The point of the story was to gauge investors interest in "alternative investment vehicles" (crypto) by demographic.

I don't have a dog in that fight. But what amazes me is how much money is tied up in cash and fixed income by all demographic groups.

Intel Provides Update As It Said It Would Do Two Days Ago -- October 9, 2025

Locator: 49340INTEL.

How did INTC react to this update? At open, down very, very slightly, has now turned slightly positive. Share price is all about MOJO, FOMO and that was the purpose of the announcement today; Intel still looking for cash.

Two days ago, Tuesday, Intel said it would provide an update today on its new chip.

Here we go:

The important news: this is 2-nm architecture -- it's all about saving energy -- less energy required to run smaller chips.

  • Nvidia
  • AMD, Intel, MediaTek
  • Apple Silicon

2-nm technology: this was posted on the blog back on June 16, 2022. Link here. And tracked here. Apparently people have forgotten. Link here. Tom reminded us last month. Link here.

From The Globe and Mail today, link here:

A reminder, Intel fabs update, August 30, 2025: link here.

I don't see anything new here. Right now, analysts waiting to see if Intel actually releases the platform by the end of the year. And then how it's received.

TGIT -- Local Kids Have Four-Day Weekend -- October 9, 2025

Locator: 49339B.

Nobel, literature: Laszlo Krasznahorkai is awarded Nobel Prize in Literature. Oh, good, another dystopian, melancholic, and "post-modern" writer. Just what we need. Hungarian. Link here. Raise your hand if you've heard of him. Wow, talk about a niche. His most acclaimed work is about a Hungarian circus in the middle of a city with only one act: a whale.

Nobel prizes this year
: the prize in literature, horrendous selection. The high-water mark in my lifetime: Bob Dylan. The prize in chemistry, even worse. Medicine: maybe worthy. Physics: jury is still out but didn't seem to hit the mark, either.

Pre-market: mixed; some red, mostly flat, some green. But it certainly looks like classic "climbing the wall of worry." See disclaimer.

RACE (Ferrari): plummets. And folks wonder why mom-and-pop retail investors are flocking to AI. Buying opportunity? Only if one is not serious about investing. See disclaimer. EV scale back. LOL. What were they thinking?

Crash and burn: it turns out it wasn't AI that crashed and burned -- well, at least not yet -- it was EVs. Except for Tesla. Unless I'm missing something, if you're interested in a EV-sedan, you have only one choice: Tesla.

Crash and burn: once the credits go away, EV sales will plunge. That's the meme. We'll see.

Crash and burn: Lucid CEO expects a further cash infusion will be needed in mid-2026.

Tesla pickups: are they selling well? No, Tesla Cybertruck sales have been poor, falling significantly short of initial expectations and facing issues like high prices, production challenges, and a polarizing design that limits its appeal to traditional truck buyers. Sales have declined after an initial period, with data showing a fraction of the predicted numbers and even a surplus of unsold inventory

Apple: holy mackerel, the stories coming out of Macao, the gambling capital of the world, and the Apple iPhone 17 Pro.

Global warming: and all this time folks thought it was global warming that caused the Palisades fire(s). Turned out it was the fire department that failed to put out the original fire set by an arsonist. Like how did that happen.

Anti-Trump: I assume 45% of the country -- the US -- will find fault with the Israel-Hamas deal. Quick! Who is the US ambassador to Israel? If you don't know, you'll never guess.

X vs Bluesky: are you kidding me? Whatever happened to Carl Q tweets? Link here.

US Supreme Court: it will be interesting how they thread the needle on whether it's legal to allow the US military to travel freely in the US. At least that's how I see it, but I know it's different than that. I guess it's cognitive dissonance.

GPD: without the tech sector, at best GDP would be flat.
