For The Archives

EVs: There will be a lot written about Governor Knewlittle's announcement that California will ban the sale of gasoline automobiles in 2035. I will not link any of those articles, except by rare exception, one way or the other. Anyone who thinks this will happen has not thought this through. But wow, 2034 should be a great year for auto sales in California.

Those articles I do link will be placed here. The exceptional articles will be linked above.

California ban on gasoline-powered cars: EPA skeptical. WSJ link here. September 29, 2020.

The Grid

The grid: rolling blackouts associated with:

  • third-world countries;
  • piss-poor planning;
  • renewable energy scams;

The grid: rolling blackouts --

  • if the grid can't handle electricity demand when annual US EV sales is less than 2% of total US auto sales, how does the grid handle electricity demand when annual US EV sales hit 10%, and then 25% projected by 2025
    • the link is a pre-Covid link; it would be nice to see an update
    • almost impossible to forecast anything during the pandemic; things are so out of whack
  • this will be fascinating to watch
  • winners, if this develops: electric utilities

Charging Stations

If California bans the sale of gasoline automobiles in 2035, the state will have to mandate:

  • charging stations sufficient to meet the needs of all apartment dwellers;
  • charging stations in all residential neighborhoods where automobile density exceeds availability of off-street parking;
  • charging stations in all parking structures of universities and colleges;
  • charging stations be built into all newly built garages
Public charging stations will have to be designed with footprints at least 10x the typical size of a modern service station.
