March 13, 2026: ticker day after announcement: flat. On day of announcement, shares dropped about 8%. Never wise to over-promise, under-deliver. EVs are tracked here.
March 13, 2026: you're going to have wait longer for that "economy-priced" Rivian they've been promising for a decade. Link here. Model released yesterday will ultimately cost about $70,000 when all in: taxes, add-ons, fees, delivery fee, etc. And the best charge time is "29 minutes" assuming you can find a "fast" charger.
March 13, 2026: R2 release yesterday -- worst possible moment for EVs -- WSJ -- link here.
Rivian began operating 17 years ago. It delivered its first vehicle in 2021. The company, which has never made an annual profit, had $5.4 billion in revenue last year with sales of 42,000 vehicles. $5.4 billion / 42,000 vehicles works out to almost $130,000 per vehicle.
The regulatory credit sales will pretty much go away for all practical purposes in 2026. The company projects around 24,000 new car sales in 2026. On a per-vehicle basis, now much did Rivian lose in 2025?
Last year, despite selling a new Rivian for around $90,000, Rivian lost $10,000 on each sale, probably due to ramping up the new R2.
