Watching The World Baseball Classic -- Championship Game -- Miami, FL -- USA Vs Japan -- March 21, 2023

Ohtani strikes out Mike Trout and makes it a Japanese win. Epic. A classic in every sense.

Wow! I'm in a great mood.

Sophia just played her first-ever club soccer game. Of the twenty-four players on the two teams, Sophia was the most talented, and the most energetic. She scored the the tying goal, ending the game at 2 - 2. She would have had the winning goal, making it 3 - 2, but she purposely did not take the shot because she thought she was off side. She says from now on, she will take those shots and let the referees make the call.

Sophia says she has no plans to continue with soccer after this season (her first and last); she wants to devote all "sports time" to Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She agreed to one season of soccer to "humor" her dad.

By the way, I broke my left great toe four days ago "playing" soccer with Sophia. More on that later, perhaps.

The weather is starting to "turn" in north Texas; one day closer to swimming.

I'm back to reading. I renewed by subscription to The New Yorker.

And I've just subscribed to the Atlantic Magazine

That brings me to three periodicals, the third being Science

The best thing about a subscription to periodicals: one gets access to the entire digital library.

Editor's pick, The Atlantic, among the eight or so, I look forward to reading these two:

    • "This is not great news for Donald Trump: despite what some Republicans are saying, getting indicted is generally a poor political strategy."
    • "Nobody likes Mike Pence: in focus groups, Republican voters are brutal in their assessment of the former vice president."

I'm also looking forward to this one:

    • "There's no such thing as free will."

    And:

    • "Why everything is getting louder: the tech industry is producing a rising din. Our bodies can't adapt."

I’ve just added The Atlantic app to my iPhone.

By the way, what did "oil" do today? WTI trending toward $70.

    One day closer to WTI-Brent:

In, July, 2023, global traders will still have WTI and Brent. Me? As of July 1, 2023, we will have WTI and WTIBrent.

Well, This Is Cool -- India Aligning With The West -- March 21, 2023

    Updates

Later, 4:38 p.m. CT a reader asks -- will the new Indian refineries be optimized for light oil for for heavy oil? My reply:

India turning to US / western drillers only makes sense.
    • Russia is unreliable and has limited growth capacity.
    • China is even less reliable, has limited growth capacity, and will probably need any oil it has for its down domestic requirements.
    • Mideast oil tends to be heavier, and India needs gasoline.

Be sure to understand whether you are following "oil" or "oil + petroleum products."

US crude oil exports. Is anyone paying attention?

    Bioluminescence -- March 21, 2023

    Putin - Xi summit:

    • Xi: needs more natural gas at cheap prices. Link here.
    • Putin: needs more conscripts to fight his war in Ukraine.

One of those two things will happen.

Five Wells Coming Off Confidential List Today -- March 21, 2023

PARA on the list: link at IBD.  Others on the list of ten about which to be concerned include: TROW, BEN, CLX, and SNA.

PARA: earlier, this from the blog:

February 23, 2023: for the life of me, I do not understand why Warren Buffett would sell his TSM and buy PARA.

Obviously he sees something the rest of us don't. By the way, looking at WBD today was not a good look for PARA. As Charlie Munger would say, "no matter how good a company PARA is, it's in a rotten sector." PARA has two things going for it: a) a 4% dividend; and, b) a takeover target.

Existing home sales: spike 15%. Link here. Median price drops. Would this affect inflation rate?

US exports: link here. 21st century, America's century.

RBN Energy: this was also posted yesterday as an "early release." How will EPA's plan for year-round E15 sales in eight states play out?

At first glance, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposal to facilitate increased sales of E15 — an 85/15 blend of gasoline blendstock and ethanol — by putting it on the same summertime regulatory footing as commonly available E10 in eight Midwest/Great Plains states might seem like a boon to corn farmers and ethanol producers. But as we discuss in today’s RBN blog, there are a number of economic, practical and even psychological barriers to broadened public access to — and use of — E15 that go well beyond the specific regulatory issue the EPA proposal addresses. As a result, as we see it, EPA’s plan is unlikely to boost E15 demand in any meaningful way, at least for now.
