Bakken: Production

Update

Since the original post in which I said I do not subscribe to any service providing comprehensive information about oil exploration in North Dakota, that has changed. I now subscribe to "Basic Services" provided by the NDIC website.  I have subscribed for several months now. July, 2, 2011.

Original Post

Note: I forgot I had this page; I've been updating great wells at "Monster Wells."

I do not subscribe to any service providing comprehensive information about oil exploration and production in North Dakota. The individual wells highlighted on this page either a) provide an example of Bakken wells; or b) make some interesting point about the Bakken. Right now, minimum information is provided. I will add comments as time goes by.

These wells often generated discussion among others and the links will take you to those discussions.

Comment: September and October, 2012, on-line half of both monts; the real story here is the varying production per month: first month, 8,000 bbls; 2nd month, 10,000 bbls; 3rd to 9th months: steady decline to about 3,000 bbls/month. Then, in the 10th month and going forward, back up to 5,000 bbls/month. The upsurge (June, 2009) of 4,434 bbls (compared to 2,086 bbls the previous month) corresponded to jump in price of oil last summer. First five months of 2011, about 2,000 bbls/month.

Comment: this well has produced greater than 1,000 bbls/day as late as 2008, exceeding its IP. Three years old and this well is averaging 600 bbls/day; compare to IP of 720 bbls/day. This well is still producing about 12,000 bbls/month, first five months of 2011.

Comment: Originally posted because -- an IP of only 194 bbls/day, but not yet a year old, and at $70/day, has generated more than $2.5 million (of course much of that goes to taxes, royalty payments, etc). About 1,000 bbls/month, first five months of 2011.

  2. Thank you. In my previous blog (before I deleted it and started over) I linked to a press release of the Dinsdale wells. I was blown away by the size of two of those wells (I never found the results of the third Dinsdale well) and they were both vertical. I have been surprised no one commented on those wells, until now. I knew it was the Trans Texas Gas Corporation from the press release but don't know whatever happened to that company. I had not see the Heartriver press release. Thank you for alerting me to it.

  3. I'm curious, when a pump is placed on a well should it be expected that the production numbers should drop?

  4. Several factors affect production. All things being equal, a pump should result in increased production.
