Eggs -- This Is An Interesting One -- January 19, 2025

Locator: 44716EGGS.

Breaking: watching the pre-inauguration celebrations, it's almost as if the past four years never happened; Biden is already completely forgotten. The two big changes: elegance is back and, the new president has a normal gait.

Moving inside: dampened no one's spirits; crowds are surging:

Tag: inflation Trump

Eggs:

The price of eggs has nothing to do with underlying inflation / government spending.

Everyone's blaming it on avian flu -- which is the underlying cause, of course -- but there are two other things contributing to the high cost of eggs, both derivatives of hoarding:

  • due to all the talk about an egg shortage, I now maintain a "risk-supply" of three one-dozen cartons at all times; up from my historical two one-dozen cartons (that's a 50% increase); and,
  • I'm seeing more and more 18-egg cartons which suggests to me that 18-egg cartons are the new "normal" when it comes to eggs.

For myself, I'm thinking of moving to 18-egg cartons.

I'm starting to save empty 12-egg cartons to transfer eggs from the 1 1/2 dozen carts to 1-dozen cartons.

January 20, 2025: it turns out hoarding is a problem. After mentioning this to my adult daughter, she said that this past week -- for the first time ever (except perhaps the Covid-19 lockdown) -- a local grocer was limiting the purchase of eggs to two cartons. Which, of course, makes the 18-egg cartons more "valuable."

Back in October, 2011, I posted this case from the NDIC hearing dockets:

Later, 7:19 p.m. CT: see first comment. The file report shows this Three Forks well was fracked / stimulated 9/22/2017; 61 stages with 14.54 million lbs of proppant. FracFocus does not have any data regarding this well.

Original Post

We last checked in on this well back in 2017. It was drilled six years earlier, in 2011, and I was never able to determine if it had been fracked.

At best, as of 2017, it was a mediocre well, reporting cumulative production of around 100,000 bbls. But, wow, holy mackerel, checking tonight, this well has reported more than one million bbls crude oil cumulative. Full production here.
