The Book Page

I'm back in my Shakespeare phase, re-reading the case for Sir Henry Neville as the one who wrote the Shakespeare plays, The Truth Will Out: Unmasking The Real Shakespeare, Brenda James & William D. Rubinstein, c. 2005. Though two names are listed as the authors, the credit belongs solely to Brenda James. She needed some gravitas to get the book published and that fell to Rubinstein.That's probably not entirely true: Rubinstein loves solving "historical" mysteries, so he probably provided an incredible amount of advice for Ms James.

I was aware of the Essex Rebellion in 1601 but had not read the finer details until today. Although it was a big, big deal and resulted in the execution of the Earl of Essex, it seems to read very closely to our own "January 6th insurrection."

Both were carried out by very, very small numbers of individuals, some/many/most of whom were probably a bit "crazy" in the loose sense of the word. Things got a bit out of hand and the seriousness of each (the January 6th event an the Essex Rebellion) is clearly in the eye of the beholder. In both cases a relatively small band of individuals marched on the the "capitol" but was quickly brought to an end. And as note, how serious either event was is/was clearly in the eye of the beholder.

Goose Bumps

Two wiki entries regarding "goose bumps" are of note: goose bumps; and "Liberty of Clink."

Of course, "clink" comes from "Liberty of the Clink"and is the basis for "clink" as a synonym for jail or prison. [And if you want to go down another short rabbit hole, look up "bedlam."]

Goose bumps is more obtuse. But it's likely Shakespeare was very, very aware of the origin of goose bumps. Pretty funny.

Update Of An Old Baker Oil Field Well After Neighboring Wells Fracked -- February 26, 2022

CLR has completed and is now reporting production from its Tallahassee wells in Baker oil field, just north of Indian Hill, on the south side of the river, across from Willston. Some of the wells:

Four producing wells completed:

  • 38185, 1,073, CLR, Tallahassee FIU 7-21H, Baker, minimal production;
  • 38186, 998, CLR, Tallahassee FIU 6-21H, Baker, minimal production;
  • 38187, 1,214, CLR, Tallahassee FIU 5-21H, Baker, minimal production;
  • 38188, 1,165, CLR, Tallahassee FIU 4-21HSL, Baker, minimal production;

The existing wells are just now returning to production but it looks like there will be some "halo" effect, although really way too early to tell. Possibly just nothing more that being off line for two years -- which is also good news -- a lot of experts have noted the risk of losing a well that is off line for an extended period of time, generally interpreted to mean at least a year, more likely more than two years.

The well:

  • 25156, 673, CLR, Columbus Federal 1-16H, Baker, t7/13; cum 185K 12/21; full production here; recent production --

My Favorite Things

Wow, wow, wow!

Via Hulu, just starting, from the beginning, the movie, Giant with Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean in that order of opening credits.

Among my favorite things and best bang for the buck:

  • Amazon Prime
    • movies, music, same day shipping, prices, subscription savings, customer-friendly;
  • Hulu
    • one word: incredible
  • Apple
    • "everything simply works"
  • Schwab
  • Lego
    • addicted; price points -- something for everyone

Giant:

The film begins with Jordan "Bick" Benedict, played by Hudson, arriving at Ardmore, Maryland, to purchase a stallion from the Lynnton family. The first part of the picture was actually shot in Albemarle County, Virginia, and used the Keswick, Virginia, railroad station as the Ardmore railway depot.

Rock Hudson's ranch: 595,000 acres.

Novel by Edna Ferber. Wiki entry worth reading.

When we lived in Virginia, I became intrigued with "horses" in Virginia The opening scene in Giant reminded me of those days, specifically as it related to Jackie Kennedy. See this "flashback" to "Wexford."  More photographs here.

Original Post

For the record, now that "we're" in it, I would rather have a "Biden" as president than a "Trump."

The 82nd Airborne Division, northbound in the Seneca, SC, area. If accurate, it would be headed north to Greer, SC, where it will connect with rail to Charleston, SC, to the southeast. When I first saw this video clip I just saw the tanks and thought these were destined for the Polish army, but now that I have watched the full clip it appears it's the "hardware" for the US' 82nd Airborne Division, and, yes, headed for Poland.

I would assume it will be a month before this hardware meets up with its personnel and is operational.

The bad news: there's only one way for Putin to match this. Nuclear. Which tends to level the playing field.
