MONSTER WELLS -- CLR's New Monster Wells In Brooklyn Oil Field -- A Huge Thanks To The Reader Who Alerted Me To These Wells -- Absolutely Huge -- September 7, 2026

Locator: 51683B.

Page views: just went over the 95 million mark; run rate 2 million page views / 24 hours right now, Sunday night.

Updates

Later, 7:44 p.m. CT: every time I look at these wells (see below), I am amazed again; these are standard two-mile wells in a relatively unremarkable field north of Williston; I have often remarked that CLR must have a "VP of Brooklyn oil field operations." LOL.

Original Post

A reader (thank you very much) noted these recently completed wells and asked the question when will operators start refracking some of the older wells in the area and/or drill new wells next to the older wells as they shut down.

The wells, not all wells in this group listed. Maybe I will eventually get around to all the wells:

WTI Trending Toward A $93-Handle -- September 7, 2026

Locator: 51682WTI.

WTI: opens Sunday night at $92.63, up $1.15; up 1.26%. Later, overnight: up $3.00; trading at $94.44. I’m still amazed that two weeks ago, folks felt Iran was going to capitulate and the price of oil was going to plummet.

Don't even get me started:

The British tax: $30,000 on a $120,000 car = $150,000 (in Britain, the price of the car embeds the VAT.

California tax: $8,000 to $12,000 on a $120,000 car (in California the sales tax is added after the sales price; tax varies based on zip code where the new car is registered.

Texas: exactly $7,500 in 2026.

AI -- September 7, 2026

Locator: 51681AI.

AI, of course, is big, big business for ... well, let's just say "AI is big business for BIG BUSINESS."

In the big scheme of things, AI is not "google search on steroids." AI is something completely different. And so much bigger. Now that I've learned that one can easily save chatbot threads for future reference and the ability for anyone to add to those threads, it has made my life a whole lot simpler. This will allow me to save untold hours of typing, re-tryping, blogging, etc. It is simply amazing.

I marvel at the response of a number of folks with regard to AI. It appears that of the folks with whom I discuss AI, as many as 90% have no interest in AI; do not understand AI; and are, literally, quite afraid of it.

They can howl at the wind all they want, but the fact is, AI is here to stay, and if one knows how to use it, AI is (and chartbots are) incredibly valuable.

If one is an investor, I cannot stress enough how valuable AI can be.

Unrelated to anything else on the blog: NetSPI and Synack have agreed to merge. KKR is backing this merger. Link here. ChatGPT says:

Given your interest in how AI is changing the economics of entire industries, I think this merger is worth watching closely. It may be an early example of a broader category in which the winning company isn't the one with the best autonomous AI, but the one that figures out how to put AI agents and scarce human expertise together most efficiently.

Updates

Later, 1:46 p.m  CT:

  • earlier I posted an Eisenhower adage on how to solve a problem;
  • there is a corollary, how to not lose a war: never surrender; simply let it drag on. Examples: both Ukraine and Russia; a singleton: Iran.

We're now getting word (link here) that earlier today:

Original Post

Due to family activities today, blogging will be delayed.

When I get a chance, I will complete this discussion: link here.

It has to do with hyperscalers and chips: Trainium, Nvidia, and Maia.

So, we'll get back to that later. It started out when I was updating my understanding of these chips, and, interestingly enough, has an investing element.

By the way, in passing, CAT is the second best ticker in the DOW so far this year in 2026. Amazing. Link here.
