NFL: Dallas got walloped today. Again.

The eight drivers who will continue to battle for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship are Kyle Larson, William Byron, Bell, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick and Joey Logano.

Alex Bowman originally was one of the eight drivers to advance to the next round, but was disqualified after his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet failed post-race weight inspection. The DQ wiped away all but one of his points from Sunday's race and dropped him below the cutline to advance.

Logano became the lucky recipient of Bowman's misfortune and moved up to eighth in points, snagging the final berth in the third round.

October 13, 2024: Walmart: awesome. Protein at 88 cents / pound is pretty cheap source of protein. Salmon $5 for four ounces, or $20 / lb.

This is an incredible "moment" for Walmart. They love "rolling back" prices and as fast as wholesale prices are falling, Walmart is passing those savings to retail customers as fast as they can. "Our" Walmart was filled with "rollback" tags today. But frozen turkeys is what caught my eye. At 98 cents / pound, less expensive than last Thanksgiving, and now Walmart has rolled back that price to 88 cents / pound.

Walmart will thrive in a disinflationary / deflationary environment. 

Walmart: awesome.

Japanese restaurant: fascinating.

Now, he’s returned with a new restaurant and a new attitude about how to run a business.  RVR (pronounced “river”), a Japanese izakaya, which is similar to a pub, opened this month down the street from Gjelina. From December 13, 2019:

I was never impressed with Trevor Lawrence; I'm probably in the minority. Today, Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4) playing Chicago Bears (3-2) in London are losing badly, 21 - 3. The former, as of the mid-third quarter, as a negative one yard on offense so far today. Having said that, the JAX have seemed to come alive late in the third quarter. 
Started the season 0 - 4. Down 28 - 10 early in 4th period, Lawrence intercepted.
SpaceX: this is absolutely amazing. Link to YouTube. Again, Elon Musk. 

YouTube: not the streaming network, but the original YouTube -- gets better and better and better.

Full movies. 

TV classics -- right now, recently added, Highway Patrol with Academy-Award winner Broderick Crawford. Series ran for four seasons, 156 episodes; typical at the time, 39 episodes / calendar year. First American series broadcast in West Germany on that country's commercial TV channel.

Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry wrote five episodes, sometimes using the pseudonym "Robert Wesley." Future producer Quinn Martin was sound supervisor in the show's early years; style elements of Highway Patrol are evident in his later productions (The Untouchables, The Fugitive, Barnaby Jones, The Invaders, The FBI and The Streets of San Francisco). When asked why the popular show ended, Crawford said, "We ran out of crimes".

Devon closed on its Grayson Mill deal on Friday, September 27, 2024.

The agreement with Grayson Mill adds 307,000 net acres and 100 Mboe/d of production (55% oil) to Devon in North Dakota and Montana. The package includes 500 gross locations and 300 refrac candidates, plus ownership in 950 miles of gathering lines for gas, water and crude.

The deal by DVN is the latest in a consolidation wave that will winnow the Bakken oil patch down to only eight main operators by the end of 2024. These eight producers will account for 80% of the basin’s 1.3 MMb/d of crude oil production.

A year ago, 11 companies produced at least 50 Mb/d of oil in the Bakken, of which only seven were public. By YE24, these 11 companies will consolidate into eight; one merger has closed and three are pending. Currently, there are only six public companies out of 130 producers in the play.
