Five New Permits; One Canceled Permit; Nine DUCs Reported As Completed -- Juneteenth, 2025

Locator: 48772ARCHIVES.

WTI: $76.00. With regard to the Mideast war:

The President’s position amounts to maybe peace, maybe war, maybe nothing. In the meantime, Israel has already escalated, bombing Iranian nuclear sites Thursday, and Iran has fired back with drones and missiles following a deadly strike on an Israeli.
The two-weeks delay also gives his opposition a chance to organize. Tea leaves: Netanyahu is on his own. Sort of like Zelenskyy.

Active rigs: 30.

Five new permits, #42031 - #42035, inclusive:

  • Operators: Slawson (4); WGO
  • Fields: Big Bend (Mountrail); Wildcat (Golden Valley)
  • Comments:
    • WTO Resources has a permit for a Ueckert 1-8 well, NWSW 9-139-104,

    • Slawson has permit for four Rebel Federal wells, NWSE 29-152-91,
      • to be sited 2058FSL and 1790 / 1990 FEL.

One permit canceled:

  • 42002, Koda Resources, Hazy 3220-1BH, Divide County.

RBN Energy: EPIC crude pipeline, poised for growth. Archived.

The EPIC Crude Pipeline, which stretches from the prolific Permian Basin in West Texas to Corpus Christi, has operated above its original nameplate capacity for more than a year, with volumes rising in recent months.

Owner EPIC Midstream in April sold its NGL pipeline to Phillips 66 for $2.2 billion and its Olefins Pipeline to Howard Energy Partners in December 2024. In today’s RBN blog, we’ll discuss the EPIC Crude Pipeline and what might be ahead.

Let’s start with some history. EPIC Crude (light blue line in Figure 1 below) was initially supported by capital commitments from funds managed by private equity group Ares Management (45%), with additional equity from Noble Midstream Partners (30%), which was acquired by Chevron; Altus Midstream (15%), which acquired BCP Raptor to form Kinetik Holdings; and Diamondback Energy (10%). Following a series of transformative transactions, Diamondback and pure-play Permian midstream company Kinetik Holdings acquired the 30% equity interest in the EPIC Crude system that was owned by Chevron in September 2024.

With the deal, the companies now each own 27.5% of EPIC Crude in addition to raising their shipper commitments on the pipeline. Parent company EPIC Midstream Holdings continues to hold a 45% stake and remains the operator of the pipeline.

Mideast

Israel:

  • running out of defensive weapons; running out of fuel; country's largest refinery has been "temporarily" shut down;
    • there's a reason the US is rushing air to Israel right now
    • remember the 1973 Yom Kippur War
  • Israel says it will take out Fordow without need for USAF B-2 "bunker buster"
    • watch:the 35th Paratroopers Brigade consists of three regular battalions, each named after a venomous snake:
      • 101st Paratroopers Battalion "Fatan/Cobra" (interesting numerical designation)
      • 202nd Paratroopers Battalion "Tzapa/Viper"
      • 890th Paratroopers Battalion "Efea/Echis"

Iran: crossed a "red line" --

  • ballistic missile direct strike on Israel's largest hospital in the south and one of the largest hospitals in all of Israel
    • direct strike hit just as Trump making "go / no-go" decision.

Health Care

Link to The WSJ:

Progressive governors around the country have extended state-funded healthcare to undocumented immigrants, aiming to get closer to universal insurance coverage.

Now, some are being forced to roll back or freeze the programs because of budget woes and unexpectedly high enrollment.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed freezing enrollment of undocumented adults into the state’s Medicaid program for the poor and disabled. Instead of receiving essentially free coverage, those already enrolled would be required to pay $100 monthly premiums starting in 2027. Newsom floated his proposal after the state program, Medi-Cal, went $6.2 billion over budget this year.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker recently signed off on a state budget that cut funding for health coverage of undocumented adults ages 42-64. Benefits will end for that group at the end of June. The program was initially expected to cost $112 million annually, but quickly ballooned to a projected $800 million a year that was “unsustainable,” a spokesman for Pritzker said.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the former Democratic vice presidential nominee, agreed to end a health insurance program for undocumented adults in a deal with state Republicans to pass a new budget this month.

The age group that requires the least healthcare in this country: age 42 - 64.

  • healthiest compared to the elderly; those age 42 - 64 not expected to require much healthcare; and,
  • over 42 years of age -- no pregnancy or female reproductive services required.

What else does the Prizker decision tell us? Think about it. Remember, the estimate was $100 billion; quickly ballooned to almost $1 billion. Not sustainable. But what do those numbers tell us about Pritzker's budget team? Think about it. If I remember, I'll come back to this question. It's fairly obvious.

Los Angeles Riots

Tea leaves: this next weekend -- in three days -- will be a re-play. The word on the street:

  • court says Trump's "national guard call-up" was unconstitutional and must be stopped now;
  • local law enforcement says they will be overrun without additional resources
  • hot spots:
    • several "towns, cities" in addition to Los Angeles
    • major highway thoroughfares

Comments

Later, 1:46 p.m. CT: Trump says he will "make decision" within two weeks.

I think that's "fair and balanced." I think it does show that Trump does not "shoot from the hip," but like his criticism of "too-late Powell" one can argue that Trump will be seen as vacillating. From my perspective, Trump has been played by:

  • Putin
  • Khomeini
  • Jerome Powell
  • his own party

The good news: Israel is unfettered. And will get all the support it needs from the US. The only decision Trump is making is whether to attempt to take out a nuclear site with a B-2 Spirit and the MOP. Israel has said it can take out the facility without the bunker buster.
