Updating Some Interesting Petro-Hunt Wells, Charlson Oil Field, Part 2 -- July 14, 2026

Locator: 51171PHUSASECOND.

See this post

Spud: 2006 and 2007. The two parent wells, 640-acre spacing, diagonally across one section.

  • 16059, 729, Petro-Hunt, USA 2D-3-1H, Charlson field, t10/06; cum 1.727438 million bbls 5/19; still producing 4,000 bbls/month; it appears this well was never fracked (based on two corroborative forms in the file report); cum 2.0366 million bbls 5/26. See full production profile at this post.
  • 16424, 700, Petro-Hunt, USA 11B-2-2H, Charlson field, t6/07; cum 1.35531 million bbls 5/19.

Later, three daughter wells, 1280-acre spacing, north-to-south, directly impacting the parents wells. The daughter wells spud late 2020, impacting daughter wells spud in 2006 and 2007.

  • 37150, 807, Petro-Hunt, USA 153-95-2B-11 1H, Charlson field, t4/21; cum 846K 5/26;
  • 37151, 437, Petro-Hunt, USA 153-95-2A-11 2H, Charlson field, t4/21; cum 459K 5/26;
  • 37152, 1,059, Petro-Hunt, USA 153-95-2A-11 3H, Charlson field, t3/21; cum 934K 5/26;

Updating A Devon Energy Rolla State Well -- July 14, 2026

Locator: 51165ROLLA.

See this post

These wells at that post were Ovintiv --> Grayson Mill --> and now acquired by Devon Energy in late 2025.

There was some activity on this family of wells in late 2025 about the time Devon Energy acquired them; there are no sundry forms yet scanned in by NDIC to suggest what might be going on. One of the wells is now inactive; it was a great well and now IA is interesting. Another well showed some increased production, and this well definitely showed increased production:

  • 24452, 999, Devon Energy, Rolla State 152-7-1-12-10H, Westberg, t5/13; cum 320K 5/2026; initial production --  13,410 bbls over 17 days extrapolates to 55,000 bbls over 30 days; 55,000 / 1,000 = 55x jump in production; FracFocus has data for frack in 2013, but no data for a more recent frack. Now, note the jump in production:

Most recent data suggests production has dropped somewhat, in line with the well-known Bakken decline curve.

Re-reading. Trying to sort this book out.

Suddenly Something Clicked: The Languages of Film Editing and Sound Design, Walter Murch, c. March, 2025.

Link here for the notes.

This is the first of three volumes. The author says he has already completed volumes 2 and 3, but they won't be released "until the right time."

Walter Murch is 82 years old. Volume 1 was published when he was 81 years old. Wiki

Never quit reading. This is truly amazing. On the very first page of this book: "uncanny valley." See wiki. So incredibly relevant at this moment in time.

Murch started compiling notes for this book in 2013 or thereabouts. And now AI.

As related to robotics engineering, robotics professor Masahiro Mori first introduced the concept in 1970 from his book titled Bukimi No Tanilit.'uncanny valley phenomenon').

Bukimi no tani was translated literally as uncanny valley in the 1978 book Robots: Fact, Fiction, and Prediction written by Jasia Reichardt.

Over time, this translation created an unintended association of the concept to Ernst Jentsch's psychoanalytic concept of the uncanny established in his 1906 essay "On the Psychology of the Uncanny" which was then critiqued and extended in Sigmund Freud's 1919 essay "The Uncanny."

Mori's original hypothesis states that as the appearance of a robot is made more human, some observers' emotional response to the robot becomes increasingly positive and empathetic, until it becomes almost human, at which point the response quickly becomes strong revulsion.

However, as the robot's appearance continues to become less distinguishable from that of a human being, the emotional response becomes positive once again and approaches human-to-human empathy levels.

When plotted on a graph (see above), the reactions are indicated by a steep decrease followed by a steep increase (hence the "valley" part of the name) in the areas where anthropomorphism is closest to reality.

Later, 7:19 p.m. CT: see first comment. The file report shows this Three Forks well was fracked / stimulated 9/22/2017; 61 stages with 14.54 million lbs of proppant. FracFocus does not have any data regarding this well.

Original Post

We last checked in on this well back in 2017. It was drilled six years earlier, in 2011, and I was never able to determine if it had been fracked.

At best, as of 2017, it was a mediocre well, reporting cumulative production of around 100,000 bbls. But, wow, holy mackerel, checking tonight, this well has reported more than one million bbls crude oil cumulative. Full production here.
