The Notebook / Journal Page

Moleskin mania. Link here.

In 2013, the Moleskine SpA launched on the Italian stock exchange, and in 2016, a Belgian car distributor bought the company outright, for half a billion euros.
Small wonder that the story is now taught in business schools as a textbook example of successful product design and marketing.
In 2017, the story came full circle when Moleskine and Chatwin’s publisher struck a deal to publish a new edition of The Songlines, bound in the now-familiar black boards, complete with elastic closure, rounded corners, ribbon markers, and pocket. You bought it shrink-wrapped to a blank journal, embossed—in a gesture which Chatwin would surely have recoiled from—with the motivational boost “Enjoy your travel writing.”

Intel Shipping Its new Core Ultra 200V -- Formerly Known As Lunar Lake -- September 3, 2024

Locator: 48523INTEL.

Tag: INTC.

From Wiki (this is really, really important):

Intel's Lunar Lake is tracked here. It is being shipped as Core Ultra 200V.

Do good things come to laptop buyers who wait?
Today, Intel is revealing its first nine answers to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and AMD’s Strix Point laptop chips — and the INTEL claims the new Core Ultra 200V lineup, formerly known as Lunar Lake, can meet or beat them in almost every way.

When the first wave of laptops ship on September 24th, they’ll have “the fastest CPU core,” “the world’s best built-in GPU,” and “the best AI performance,” according to Intel. Where Qualcomm versus AMD was a question of battery life versus graphical performance, Intel claims its new chips do it all.

For example, Dell is just now announcing a new version of its flagship $1,400 XPS 13 laptop with Lunar Lake that’s basically identical to the current model in every other way: same chassis, same dimensions, same screen, same 55 watt-hour battery pack. And yet, Dell says it now gets up to 26 hours of 1080p Netflix streaming at 150 nits of brightness, up from 18 hours previously.

Cramer's First Hour -- September 3, 2024

Locator: 48522CRAMER.

Cramer's first hour: a mix of fact, factoids, opinions from various sources -- often not cited -- while listening to Cramer's first hour on CNBC.

Boeing: very, very challenged; Cramer doesn't understand why folks are so bullish on Boeing. The argument that there are only two aircraft manufacturers "doesn't hold water."

Intel (INTC): lots of discussion -- says Intel in big trouble. Interestingly, AMD and XLNX mentioned numerous times (positively). Cramer: to call Intel "problematic" is too optimistic. At the open, down another 5%; now down about 4% -- ten minutes into trading.

Cramer may need to assemble a list of companies with balance sheet problems -- Carl.

DIS: wow, now trading below $90.

RBN Energy: Gulf coast export terminals vie for NGL and crude oil market share.

Over the past decade, the only significant growth market for U.S. crude oil and NGLs has been exports, with over 90% departing from the Gulf Coast. Exports via Gulf of Mexico ports have surged from about 1 MMb/d in 2016 to over 6 MMb/d last year. Great news for PADD 3 export facilities, right? Well, it’s not that simple. The distribution of barrels has been wildly uneven, resulting in significant winners, forlorn losers, and everything in between. And export volumes are still ramping up, as is the competition among marine terminals for crude and NGL export market share, with far-reaching consequences for producers, midstreamers and exporters. This is one of the core themes at our upcoming NACON conference, which is all about PADD 3 North American Crude Oil & NGLs and scheduled for October 24 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston. In today’s RBN blog, we’ll delve into the highly competitive liquids export landscape, consider some of the important factors driving flows one way or the other, and — fair warning — slip in some subliminal advertising for the NACON event.

In observance of Labor Day, we’ve given our writers a break and are revisiting a recently published blog on crude oil and NGL exports from the U.S. Gulf Coast. If you didn’t read it then, this is your opportunity to see what you missed!
