Great news but totally unexpected. How they compete with Amazon is beyond me.
It is opening new stores at a near-record pace, enabling the bookseller to spread its fixed costs—such as warehouses—across a larger footprint.
As a privately held business, Barnes & Noble doesn’t report its financial results. But one useful indicator is its store count. The bookseller is on track to open 60 new locations this year, or more than one a week. By year-end, the retailer expects to have 740 stores in the U.S., up from 627 in 2019.
