General Motors Cuts Prices On The Chevy Bolt -- June 1, 2022

California: I just got a note from a reader -- gasoline is now priced at $8 / gallon in Los Angeles. Gonna be interesting to see how folks vote in November. More of the same?

The problem with $8-gasoline is not the fact that it's eight dollars but:

  • the fact that it's not going to get better any time soon; Americans have experienced gasoline shortages and high prices before but it's always been short-lived and quickly corrected; not this time;
  • the fact that it is self-inflicted; the administration welcomes high gasoline prices as a means to get folks to buy Teslas, as if folks who can't afford $8-gasoline can afford $100,000 Teslas or $100,000 F-150 Lightnings;
  • the fact that this can be traced back to day one of this administration, when by executive order, the pipeline that would bring Canadian oil to US refineries was keystoned;
  • the fact that the elites in New York who have never owned a car and have never pumped gasoline see this only as a news story and not as an issue that is really harming the economy;

Disruptive:

From CNBC:

  • General Motors on Wednesday slashed the price of its 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV, likely making it the least expensive electric vehicle on sale in the U.S.
  • The Detroit automaker cut the price of the Bolt EV by $5,900 and of the larger Bolt EUV by $6,300.
  • The reductions come as automakers, especially pure EV companies, hike prices on their electric vehicles amid changing market conditions and rising commodity costs.
