What My Family Hears When I Talk About The Bakken -- July 17, 2021

Video of the day: link here

If you don't hear sound, note the "mute/unmute" icon is at the top right above the video.

This is why "we" have a chip shortage.

He had me at "pandermic." Not "pandemic, but "pandermic."

A Multi-Word Day

A reader recently sent me a note calling it a "three-word day." The reader had found three new words of interest to share somehow related to the Bakken.

At risk of starting a battle I cannot finish, much less win, here goes.

Not to be outdone, from Ackermann's Repository, one of the world's oldest lifestyle magazines, in London, in the Victoria and Albert Museum's wood-clad archive.

One issue from the 1790s described "a Scotch bonnet of garnet-colored satin, the ends trimmed with gold fringe."

Another recommended a gown of "puce-colored satin" to be worm with a "Roman mantle of scarlet kerseymere."

At other times, the well-dressed woman would be nothing without a pelisse in  hair brown, a bonnet trimmed with coquelicot-colored feather or lemon-colored sarcenet silk.

Sometimes there were colored plates accompanying the descriptions to help decipher what hair brown could possibly look like, but often there were not. It was like listening to a conversation in a language I only half understood. I was hooked.

From The Secret Lives of Color, Kassia St Clair, c. 2016, p. 10.

More Lana Del Rey

From social media today:

  • Director: Im sorry but we just don't have the resources right now to shoot three separate videos.
  • Lana: Hold my iPhone

Apple needs to sign LDR. Just saying.

Genealogy

Someone said LDR was the daughter of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. Wrong,

Wrong. Wrong.

But that "someone" got the mom right.

LDR, if born of mortal parents, they would have been David Lynch and Marilyn Monroe.
