Project Star -- Another Energy -- Data Center For Texas -- South Texas -- Near San Antonio -- October 5, 2026

Locator: 51959PROJECTSTAR.

It looks like I failed to note this on the blog: Project Star. It was not mentioned by name but at her first White House press briefing the new White House press secretary mentioned it.

With minimal information, ChatGPT was able to find the story for me. Link here. Link: https://chatgpt.com/s/t_6ad1a3c2bff88191bf43acbd342d2e42.

So, here's AI's synopis of Project Star. Again, for Texas, a huge, huge story. Note where in Texas this new project will be built.

But this is huge: the power plant is 6.5 GW; the data center will use 5 GW. Data centers are typically 1 - 2 GW, with most near the 1-GW threshold, so 6.5 GW caught my attention.

San Antonio, without question, the real sleeper among the top five Texas cities, and I would argue that San Antonio is the best of the five. If I could choose where I would like to be living in Texas now, it would be San Antonio.

This is the story in The San Antonio News as reported by Yahoo!Finance, link here:

A trade deal between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea is spurring a $22 billion gas-fired generating plant to power a data center campus in South Texas.

Dubbed Project Star, the plant in Encinal will be operated by NextEra Energy Resources and Related Companies, with San Antonio-based Lewis Energy Group as a partner. NextEra said the project will create about 8,400 construction jobs and 170 permanent jobs at the power plant campus.

The plant in southwest La Salle County will generate 6.47 gigawatts of electricity, enough to power 1.62 million Texas homes on a hot summer day - though few residences will be powered by the project. Instead, it will power the 5-gigawatt data center campus Related Digital is building on an adjacent site, the company said. Any excess energy will be sold to the Texas grid.

More jobs will be generated by the data center campus, which Related Digital said will operate on a closed-loop cooling system, which the company said will keep the operation's daily water consumption comparable to that of a standard office building.
