- Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation, wiki.
- originally the Microelectronics and Computer Consortium (MCC);
- ceased operats in 2000; formally dissolved in 2004
- private consortium in response to announcement of Japan's Fifth Generation Project launched in 1982, aimed at producing a new kind of computer by 1991 (whatever happened to quantum computing?)
- headed by Admiral Bobby Ray Inman (serious investors interested in tech need to read his bio)
- 17 cities bid for HQ; went to Austin; San Antonio was in lead but had not research university;
- most interesting: an alternate option for those engineers not wanting to be part of the Strategic Defense Initiative
- at least fourteen companies were spun out of MCC
