After three years of ignoring the southern border, all of a sudden, a few days before 2024, a presidential election year when the incumbent's approval rating is cratering, all of a sudden, ABC nightly news is covering, in depth, the "Southern Surge" -- in the northeast.
A lot of undocumented tourists are asking to be taken to "sanctuary cities" such as NYC and Denver, CO.
From my perspective: if I were an undocumented visitor arriving in Texas, I would want to get out of Texas as quickly as possible (the only state with a law on the books allowing undocumented visitors to be arrested if they entered the US illegally) and flee to a sanctuary city as quickly as possible to make it even more difficult to send me back to my home country. This is not rocket science.
It's interesting: the mayors of NYC and Denver, CO, did not mention suing to stop tourists from arriving in their sanctuary cities. What do they want? Federal and state money. Lots of it.
US government now seriously (?) working to restore order and control at the southern border.
From earlier today, on the blog:
Southern Surge: the surge is tracked here.
- all of a sudden: going into a presidential election year, Biden, Blinken, and Nod getting religion?
- pet peeve
- 10,000 new undocumented visitors entered Texas yesterday (and every day for years now)
- NYC unable to handle 180 new undocumented visitors (granted, that number is now increasing significantly)
