Tesla: Flashback

A few years ago, an extended family member told me the same thing. I didn't accept his premise.

  1. My "old codger" rule for buying a new car? One should buy a new car when the annual repair cost of the one presently owned exceeds the first-year depreciation of the desired new one... Not a good rule for stimulating the economy, but good for one's personal net worth.

    1. I think I've used that rule, but just didn't realize it. LOL.

    2. Know what I really like? Your caper of renting an Audi Quattro to drive nearly 5,000 miles. A great ideal that I'd never considered.
Sadly, I've been driving Audi's since 1985; maintenance can almost cause one to violate the rule I espoused above!
Too soon old, too late smart! But this is definitely a great notion!

    3. It really did turn out well. My hunch: even Sophia thought it was a very, very smooth ride.

  2. Ahhh, to be young again! The first, and probably the most fun, until an S4 came along... https://www.audiworld.com/model/coupe-gt/85-coupe.shtml

  3. The Coupe GT? We gave it to our son. He drove it to NY; upon graduation from Vassar he headed back to Oregon. When he got here.... well, it took two quarts of oil to get it up to empty! That little five banger engine was something else. A year later, we traded it to a dealer in ND... big mistake, if only for sentimental reasons.

    1. I made the same mistake with my second car: a 1973 Chevy SS Nova which I gave away in 1980 when I received orders for Germany.

My first "car" was a 1948 Willys jeep.
