First Of Two BR (COP) Rigs Sited -- February 2, 2022

A reader wrote to tell met that BR (COP) will have two rigs in the Bakken. This rig, Nabors B2, appears to be the first, a rig on #37925.

BR has a rig on this five-well pad in Pershing oil field:

  • 37925, conf/rig on site, BR, Lone Beaver 1-1-17MTFH, North Fork,
  • 37693, conf, BR, Lone Beaver 1-1-17TFH, North Fork,
  • 37694, conf, BR, Lone Beaver 2-1-17TFH, North Fork,
  • 37695, conf, BR, Lone Beaver 4-1-17MBH, North Fork,
  • 37696, conf, BR, Lone Beaver 5-1-17TFH, North Fork,

  1. Do you know if there are any rigs (of any company) drilling in the Red River (SW ND)?

    1. It's a long answer so I will re-post this as a stand-alone post tomorrow.

But the short answer is "no."

But it's more interesting than that. The NDIC map shows a rig on site in far SW corner of North Dakota. Turns out to be Nabors B27 operated by CLR (Continental Resources) drilling into the North Red River.

But the map is not updated / current (still an IT problem with the NDIC). That well was drilled back in summer of 2021, and has about five months of production, July, 2021 - November, 2021.

Nabors B27 is not being operated by Hess and drilling a Bakken well up in Williams County, at least according to the NDIC's daily activity report and the rig spreadsheet.

I'm not sure why you are asking but though there is nothing currently being drilled in the far south based on NDIC daily activity report, Continental Resources did drill the North Red River last summer.

    2. It's not a real boom until they start drilling the Red River again. And not just some one-off from last summer. (Oh well.)

    3. Wow, wow, wow -- you and I are on the same page. LOL. I've never posted this, but I've often thought the same: at $100 oil -- and we're trending there -- someone is going to start drilling the Red River. So, we'll see.
