    did the musical composition come before the movie, or was it the other way around, such that this is just a 'cover'

      This particular Danish Orchestra performance was a "cover" of the original.

      The Danish Orchestra has a long history of doing these great anthems / themes. The Ennio Morricone score for the movie was an original and considered to be one of the greatest and most original film scores in history.
