Never stop reading. Re-reading this book much more closely -- an incredible book. Dividing the Spoils: The War for Alexander the Great's Empire, Robin Waterfield, c. 2011.
Query:
It is amazing how Alexander's death set in motion the history of Greece, the Middle East (Persia/Babylon), "the -stan countries," and Egypt. The history of how Alexander's death began the breakup of the "Empire" which ultimately resulted in the history / beginning of the modern world of civilization.

One way to look at it:
- From 3,000 BC to 1200 BC: the progress toward civilization. Humpty Dumpty before the fall.
- 1200 BC: the collapse of civilization. Humpty Dumpty falls off the wall.
- 300 BC: Alexander the Great tries to put back together Humpty Dumpty. His death ended that attempt, but it would have failed sooner or later, regardless.
Time to put this altogether.
