This was a note I just sent to a chatbot:
There
is some "irony" or coincidence that Shakespeare's four major tragedies
(best plays) were written between 1604 - 1606, and Joseph Conrad's bests
works (Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, The Secret Agent) were written
almost exactly 300 years later (1899 - 1907). Just an observation,
nothing to be made of it, but it helps -- as cocktail chatter -- to
remember when the playwright and the author were doing their best work.
