Biden: Vanity Fair has yet another long essay on Biden's failed run. Journalists who are apologists for the Democratic Party are still coming up short explaining "not how" but "why" they failed to report the obvious.
George Clooney, perhaps, comes across as one of the most honest but he, also, waited too long to pen his editorial in The New York Times (July 10, 2024).
Apparently these journalists, who desperately wanted ABT (anyone but Trump), felt Americans would be willing to re-elect a "President Ike" who spent his days on the beach (or in the basement), if they simply ignored (reporting) the obvious.
Only now, Americans recognize how much impact a "real" president can have [think JFK, Ronald Reagan, FDR] [memo to self: insert Trump's name here]. Securing the southern border in less than 30 days. Amazing. Pointing out the global trade imbalance at the detriment of the US in the first 60 days. New emphasis on ending regional wars in first 90 days. Establishing huge deals bringing jobs and money back to the US in 120 days. That last one? So successful we now have a story today of France's Macron making deals with Hanoi.
How many folks knew Harvard had an endowment of $53 billion on which they don't pay taxes?
The Democratic party has the same problem: statesmen that are older than dust. These are the ones that still get all the headlines: Gerry Connelly (Wiki reports that he has died; Connelly's webpage doesn't mention that -- so not everyone is on the same page with this), Hillary Clinton (everything suggests she is still living), Chuck Schumer (I don't know).
From Gerry Connelly's website, screenshot taken May 26, 2025.
He died, according to wiki, May 21, 2025. So, I really don't know: did he die or is he still the ranking member. They say seemingly contradictory "facts" can both be correct. Or as Hillary once said something about the "willing suspension of disbelief." Wow, she had some great speechwriters.
EVs: I'm not quite yet in the mood to blog this morning, but I don't want to lose bragging rights to all the news coming out on BYD, Volvo, tariffs, today, so will post this short blurb and get back to it when I have more energy. The two big stories: BYD lowers prices significantly and Volvo says it "can't make it" if EU tariffs go to 50% as Trump threatened. Those two stories will result in a number of links to old blog posts, to include those on Buffett / Munger with regard to BYD.
