Our monthly utility bill. We only have electricity, no natural gas.
Up until about a year ago, I worked very, very hard at conserving electricity. No longer. About a year ago, except for drying clothes at peak energy demand in the summer, I no longer care about our use of electricity. As a wag, I suppose, our monthly electricity bills have increased about 10%. An average "shoulder" month (spring, autumn) probably went from around $85 to $95?
February was a very cold month. The average temperature this past month was 60°F. Last year, same month, the average temperature was 66°F.
Notice how much our daily use increased from one year ago: average daily usage, kWh, from 19 to 33 -- holy mackerel.
I thought the average of 33 kWh and 35 kWh was high, but then I checked January, of 2024 and January, 2025. Not sure why February of last year (19 kWh) was so low. It was very likely that we were traveling and not home part of the month.
