For Those Not Interested In This Morning's Inauguration Activities, The Weather Channel May Be Your Best Bet -- The Weather Story In South Texas Through Southern Louisiana Will Be The Big Story Today -- January 20, 2025

The next best option for those who do not want to watch the inauguration ceremonies this morning: the sports talk shows.

NFL: the conference championship games have been set. By this time next week, we will know the two two teams heading to Super Bowl 59.  The four: Washington Commanders / Philadelphia Eagles; Buffalo Bills / Kansas City Chiefs. Three teams from the northeast United States; one from fly-over country.

According to a media guide from 2005 published for Super Bowl XL in Detroit, the NFL uses Roman numerals to denote Super Bowls because the title game is held in the calendar year after the majority of the NFL season is held.
Regardless of the reason: the decision was brilliant.
Calling it the "Super Bowl," was coined by a formed Kansas City Chiefs coach.

NFL quarterbacks: Jerry Jones must be second-guessing his choices (if he's honest with himself).

As mentioned yesterday, the NFL quarterback story is passing Dak Prescott by. Day-by-day, Dak is becoming less and less relevant. It was fortunate for Mike McCarthy to be able to leave now. If the Cowboys don't make it to the second game of the playoff season this next year, it's all over for Dak Prescott. I've never seen a year in which quarterbacks have been so dominant. Even fair weather fans can name most of the NFL quarterbacks this year; but quick, name the top ten tight ends, top ten running backs. Yeah.

Trump: Of course, this afternoon will be completely different when President Trump starts releasing his executive orders.

Ironically -- at least I think it's ironic -- President Barack Obama, a legal scholar trained at Harvard -- perfected the art of Presidential executive orders. And now, President Biden has really, really lowered the bar for Presidential pardons, commutations, and executive orders -- most interesting is how Trump will find "novel" ways to act outside of Congressional "oversight."

My hunch: the US Supreme Court is going to have a very, very busy calendar for the next four years.

Yesterday, the "understanding" was that Trump would sign 50 executive orders today. Now, 100?

Presidential Actions

Biden's pardons, commutations, and executive orders in his last month of office will make it much easier for Trump in his first month. Isn't there a word for that? Karma?

Trump is not running for re-election. JD Vance is seldom seen on-stage with Trump. Elon Musk is frequently seen on stage with Trump.

I'm hoping the administration sticks with a three-punch strategy: Trump - Mush - JD Vance.
