My mother had one sibling, an older brother, Don. My mother died at age 93 a few years ago. Don is still going strong.
The birthday was celebrated in Amish country, southeastern Pennsylvania, Saturday, Labor Day weekend, September 2, 2023. My uncle Don's birthday is actually in August.
He celebrated his 100th birthday in August! Notice: no cane, no walker, no wheelchair. He has his own teeth (as far as I can tell). Still drives occasionally in his retirement community in the area. No "silver alerts." Yet.
Every time his kids visit they check the car for dings and dents. In all the years of checking, only one small ding due to backing in to his mailbox. He lives in his own little cottage with attached garage.
I did not ask how often he needs to renew his driver's license. For all I know, that's a detail for which he may no longer be concerned.
What did he do in the war? US Coast Guard / US Navy -- troop and POW transport in both the Atlantic and the Pacific.
The same thing for my dad -- both he and Don were born the same year (?) -- US Coast / US Navy -- troop and POW transport in the Atlantic and the Pacific.
