Holy mackerel: NCAA men's March Madness:
- Gonzaga (#1) knocked off by #4 Arkansas -- 74 - 68, are you kidding me?
- Arizona (#1) knocked off by #5 Houston -- 72 - 60, are you kidding me?
- Houston took out Illinois earlier;
- this should end the Houston-Illinois controversy
- Duke (#2) hangs on; 78 - 73, over Texas Tech (#3)
Elite Eight:
- Houston vs Villanova
- Kansas vs Miami (FL)
- Arkansas vs Duke
- St Peter's vs UNC: later, holy mackerel! St Peter's Peacocks defeats Purdue, 67 - 64.
- first time in NCAA tournament history, a #15 team makes it to the Elite Eight.
Texas high school girls soccer, state championship tournament
- granddaughter Olivia's team won last night in the first round, beating opponent 8 - 0
The "Elites" of college basketball are no longer so elite. The mid-major conferences have caught up.
ReplyDeleteHas made filling out brackets pointless.
BTW- Good for Olivia, does her team ever lose??
Re: Olivia. LOL.
DeleteYes, her team does occasionally lose. I generally don't post those results. LOL.
Huge schools in Texas are "6A."
Very big but not huge schools in Texas are "5A."
Big schools in Texas are "4A" and so on.
I would assume Williston High School in North Dakota would be a 3A school here in Texas.
Olivia's high school is "5A."
For the entire state, "5A," Olivia's soccer team historically does very well. I'm not sure they have ever taken state championship, but I do believe they have come in second, but I could be way wrong.
My hunch is they will have a tough game this week, second round, and if they win, unlikely to get past the third round. Competition is fierce.
A lot of girls quit during their junior year when they do not make varsity team, which really hurts the next year's senior class.
