This is from an old, old NDIC publication, undated but data seems to date it about 2000, before the North Dakota Bakken Boom. One can get an idea of how old this chart is by three data points:
- Bakken was ranked #6 in production at the time the chart was published; it is now #1, and frankly, in a "zone of its own"
- although purists may argue that the Three Forks is part of Bakken, it should be noted that the Three Forks pay zone is not even noted on this chart
- in this chart, the Bakken had produced about 40 million bbls of oil; since late 2014, the Bakken produced 40 million bbls of oil every 40 days -- about how long the Great Deluge lasted
