As of 5 p.m. today, a record 14 inches of snow had fallen south of 57th Street, catching forecasters by surprise.
The previous snowfall record for the day was 3.8 inches in 1975.
On Wednesday, the forecast for today in Sioux Falls called for less than one inch of snow. Yesterday, the number was raised to 1 to 3 inches. And just this morning the prediction was for 4-6 inches.Fourteen inches. That is not trivial.
