Dunn County has spent nearly $200,000 to have a contractor apply liquid magnesium chloride in about 70 hard-hit locations in that county, about one-third of that amount this year alone.Link here.
The county has about 900 miles of road; 300 of those are considered heavily impacted by oil development.
In Dunn County, the magnesium chloride solution is applied to roads running alongside farmsteads to help improve the quality of life for those people, but it turns out for some of them, life is not that good.

In Bowman county ND in the oil field areas they use chip seal oil and chip seal rock..
ReplyDeleteHot heavy oil is sprayed on a freshly bladed/packed road, then crushed rock 3/8 inch in diameter is applied to the oil, then packers roll the rock into the gravel. this make for a almost blacktop road
This is done approx 100 yds from each rural rach homestead at a fraction of the cost of blacktop.
It seems I recall seeing this method all the time while I was growing up in North Dakota.
