Two new tags: 1920s; GildedAge.

In five words or less:

By the way, check out that typeface. How, at a glance, can you tell that it's not Aptos? Easiest way, look at the one-story "g" and the "a."

Change In Blogging Rules

My rule is to link "everything" in order to make it easier for readers (and myself) fact-check things -- particularly my typographical errors.

But linking "everything" is tiresome, tedious, and takes up time. Starting today I will be very selective which screenshots from twitter that I link.

Dune: Part 2

Blogging Will Be Interrupted? The Basketball Game Is About To Begin; Sopia Is Coming Over; The PGA Is Getting Exciting; And Then NASCAR -- March 3, 2024

Locator: 46664CAITLIN.

This is incredible. The PGA goes into a rain delay -- right at noon, so we can switch to Fox to watch Caitlin. This is absolutely incredible.

My mother was a huge basketball fan and from Iowa. This would have made her day!

If you're not watching this game, you will be missing history in real time.

Ninety minutes of live television.
Caitlin will be on screen eighty-nine of those minutes.

First rebound: Clark.

First score: Ohio.

First score for Iowa: not Clark. A three-pointer and Iowa has the lead, but quickly loses the lead, 5 - 3.

Clark misses her first shot. Now tied, 5 - 5.

Finally, Clark hits her first basket, a three-pointer. Needs 15 points to break Pete Maravich's record. It looks like Gabby Marshall is the "one" today.

Clark on the bench.

Amazing, all the three-pointers.

Iowa blocked and fouled. Iowa up 13 - 7.

Reminder: Iowa, #6; Ohio, #2.

Early 2nd quarter, 31 - 21.

Clark, nine points away.  Most recent shot did not count, traveling.

Clark, from downtown, six points away from record.

Four points away from record. From under the net.

Two points away from the record. From under the net. A record that has held for 54 years.

Seconds to go in first half.

Ohio coach gets a technical. Play -- the technical -- under review. Call held. Ohio player elbowed Caitlyn well after the play.

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW

Caitlin just made basketball history with 0.3 seconds to play. Then with 0.3 seconds, another two-pointer.

50 - 39 at the half. Shot didn’t count. 48 - 39 at the half.

But the story is history.

I think the blogging on this game is over for me.

With Hulu, one catch any number of sports events at one time. Amazing.

Final: 93 - 83. An all-time scoring record.  Absolutely blew away Ohio. It's on the Ohio coach.

The Bakken Vs Guyana -- Bakken Operators Ranked By "Excitement" -- March 3, 2024

Guyana is tracked here.

When I read these stories I almost get the feeling that folks forget how much oil the Bakken is producing.

So, I decided to do check. Came up with this.

Bakken Operators

I've long lost the bubble on acreage in the Bakken and production by Bakken operators, for various reasons, but for the "excitement" factor, I think CLR has dropped from first to third place:

For "excitement," these are the top five:

  • Chord Energy: Oasis + Whiting + Enerplus (Enerplus may be the best operator of the three but that would be a close call vs Oasis).
  • Devon: Devon + WPX (reservation; huge).
  • CLR: went private; history of "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."
  • Hess: could move higher if CVX successful in merger, but increasingly unlikely. Might CVX take another look at Hess even if CVX doesn't get Guyana?
  • EOG, tied with others.

Check out the GDP, PCE, inflation rate, interest rates, etc.

S&P, NASDAQ: higher for 3Q21

  • could post 6th quarterly gain

Jobs (yawn):

  • up 11,000 to 362,000 vs 330,000 expected
  • GDP, revised, 2Q: 6.7% vs prior 6.6%
  • 2Q21: pce price index: core inflation, 2Q: 6.1% vs prior estimate, 6.1%
  • ten year treasury: 1.538%

California bacon:

  • across the state, newspapers are reporting skyrocketing prices for bacon; none mention the new California law, Proposition 12, that will come into effect January 1, 2022; one link here;
  • pork producers appeal to US Supreme Court; link here;
  • how severe is the bill?
    • Prop. 12 requires each sow whose piglets are raised for uncooked cuts of pork sold in California – about 9% of North American sows – to have a minimum of 24 square feet of space. Because Prop. 12 applies only to sows, not to their offspring who are raised for meat, it will apply to well less than 1% of the 90 million North American hogs.

Hit and run: South Dakota attorney general reaches confidential settlement with widow. Link here.

Streaming

I honestly don't get it.

Sling TV is a $25 - $45 / monthly streaming internet / television / cable /whatever service, and yet, with my Amazon Fire Stick I get Sling TV and so much more for no additional cost.

I honestly don't get it. Hulu and Amazon Fire Stick seems to get me everything I would ever want. My wife pays for Netflix which I never watch. I discontinues Apple TV+ some months ago. Lousy content, although it looks like Apple is raising the bar. We'll see.
