Hunter Hess -- Happy To Be Here -- Perhaps Not -- February 22, 2026

 Locator: 50030HUNTERHESS.

After watching the US hockey team take the gold for the first time in 46 years ... each member was so happy to be on the US team ... all I could think of was ... America's Hunter Hess ...

American freestyle halfpipe skier Hunter Hess, competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, expressed "mixed emotions" about representing the United States due to current political, social, and immigration issues. Hess stated it was "hard" to wear the flag, noting that doing so does not mean he supports everything happening in the US.

The US hockey players apparently had no such compunctions (?).

Howard Hess. Oh, he's from Oregon. Explains a lot.

I may have to start awarding an annual Howard Hess trophy every year for Oregonian Sportsperson of the Year. Only problem: half of Hollywood and half of the US Congress would be eligible for the award.

Rudolph Hess comes to mind.

Hess went on to finish in 10th place at the halfpipe final.

The halfpipe. A marginal sport at best represented by a marginal athlete at best.
