Analysts made a huge deal about Apple's decreasing earnings -- the meme: Apple's fourth consecutive quarterly decline. So, what do you notice below?
Note, the first graphic does not include the most recent earnings announcement.
EPS for the most recent quarter was $1.46, beating estimates ($1.39) and the whisper number ($1.45).
One year ago, EPS was $1.26; this same quarter, one year later: $1.46, a 13% increase. This occurred in a year when:
- Apple introduced the most sophisticated personable mobile device ever released by any company; the Vision Pro
- Apple released the Vision Pro for beta testing but not ready to be released for general sales until mid-2024;
- a huge amount of money hasbeen spent on this device and much more will be spent on improving and marketing; it may be years before it’s profitable and it’s unlikely to ever “move the needle”;
- Apple developed and released the family of M3 chips, the most sophisticated chips for use by the general public at an affordable price ever released by any tech company;
- Apple released the most sophisticated iPhone ever, the iPhone 15, which was only available for only one week of that quarter; and,
- that's just for starters.
Because "my analysis" is at so much variance with much smarter, more more knowledgeable analysts, everything needs to be fact-checked.
