European Unemployment Rate And Putin's War -- August 14, 2022

European unemployment: a snapshot in time. All lower than the US and one could argue three of the four have a "better" social safety net than the US:

  • Switzerland: 2.0%
  • Czech Republic: 2.4%
  • Poland: 2.7%
  • Germany: 2.8%

Average for the EU: 6.0%; better than the 7.2% one year earlier.

France? 7.2%. Which leads to the next question? French unemployment rate -- history:

French unemployment rate is at a historic low.

It Was Always About The Money

This is an item from social media I happened to run across -- the background is irrelevant. I have no idea what to make of this, but it does provide a "dot to connect and something to consider.

I don't know if folks recall, but during the Bush - Cheney administration there was much written about NEOCONS and warmongering.

From social media:

It was always about the money. The Cheneys and their NEOCON ForeverWar buddies had sweet, sweet graft set up to skim money off of "defense contracts," but Trump's Pax Americana was costing them billions. That's why they had to destroy him.

It's interesting to think about that comment which may or may not have any basis in fact, but alongside the very low unemployment in much of Europe during a time of war, seems fascinating.

  1. When I was stationed in W Germany in the '80's, anyone who had a job had access to health care.
People were willing to pull weeds from autobahn roads.
People willing to work got taken care of. Pretty simple plan.

    1. I do think that some basic universal health coverage is something appropriate for the US.
