  1. Bruce, trying to understand a bit more of the business. We, in part, own mineral rights on 22128 and am trying to understand what the 22128, 626, G3 Operating, A & B 1-30-31H, Strandahl, t4/12; cum 12K 5/12 as listed above all means. I get 22128, but none of the rest do I understand.

    Can you provide any insight?

    Thanks,

    1. Whenever I report wells, I try to stay fairly consistent, but information may vary from time to time:

      22128: NDIC permit/well number

626: the second number, always in red (and generally the only thing on my blog that is in red: the initial production (IP) as provided by NDIC in most cases; generally IP in bbls of oil, although in the distant past I did have bbls of oil equivalent which included oil and natural gas

G3 Operating: name of the operator

A & B 1-30-31H: name of the well (this particular example is an unusual name)

Strandahl: the oil field in the Williston Basin where the well was drilled

t4/12: that was the test date; month/year only -- April, 2012; sometimes, I also provide the spud date, as "s1/12" -- spud January, 2012.

cum 12K 5/12: that is the total oil production (cum = cumulative) as of 5/12 (May, 2012). Generally, NDIC cumulative production is about two months behind current date.

I sometimes also include the formation targeted; if not provided, you can assume it is the Bakken; I will note if the formation targeted is the Spearfish, Madison, Red River, etc.

Sometimes I note the number of frac stages and proppants, e.g., "30 stages, 2.3 million lbs sand/ceramics."

If the IP has not been reported: drl = drill (off confidential list, but still drilling/completing); conf=on confidential list; DRY = dry well.

    1. Thank you. Much of what I post is to help me "remember" what is going on in the Bakken.
