169: New Record for Active Rigs Drilling for Oil in North Dakota

Finally, after "seemingly forever," there is a new record: 169 rigs actively drilling for oil in North Dakota.

This record will not last long.

If there is adequate manpower in North Dakota to support the industry, "we" will hit 175 active drilling rigs by Memorial Day.

  1. Problem # 2 we are so short on workover rigs. The deferred production keeps climbing. For every extra drilling rig we need an extra pulling unit and it is creating a problem now. The increase in drills is going beyond the w/o capabilities.

  2. Thank you for pointing that out.

They say there are 74 companies involved for every well that is drilled in the Bakken; I don't know if I can find that link any more, but all those oil service companies are swamped with work, and it's only going to get worse.
