Random Look At Status Of Permits Issued In 2012 -- August 21, 2019

The other day a reader commented about the number of permits that are canceled in any given year.

For 2012, this is what my data shows. It will be different than the NDIC data but it was taken from the NDIC scout tickets.

There were 2,521 permits issued in 2012. [Again, this is my data; it will differ from the NDIC data but I doubt it will differ by much.]

Of those 2,521 permits, 2,111 had an IP.   Five additional ones had production but no IP provided.

Permits designated as "PNC" (permit now canceled): 304 (12%).

Other categories:
  • DUCs (SI/NC): 16
  • conf: still on confidential list -- 36
  • loc: still with permit only -- no activity -- 8
  • dry: 27
  • PA (permanently abandoned): 5
  • TA (temporarily abandoned; generally will go to permanently abandoned): 12
  • WI: 6 (generally Madison wells)
I would assume that many of the wells still listed as conf / loc will eventually become PNC

Again, this is my data taken from NDIC scout tickets. It was done very quickly, not triple-checked, and there will be typographical and factual errors. If this is important to you, go to the source.
