What does the term pooling mean.
ReplyDeleteI will post a link for definition of pooling next time I post an update, but in my mind "pooling" represents the last step before the drilling actually begins.
ReplyDeleteOnce "everything" has been accomplished and the producer is ready to drill, the operator puts in a request to "pool" the leases. That process puts all mineral rights owners into the same "pool" for paying royalties when the oil is sold.
This is important for at least one reason: anyone who might be unhappy with the lease proposal and wants to hold out, will now get the option to join the "pool" on same basis as the others or pay a fairly huge amount of money upfront to have a "working interest" in the well.
