Regularmaxxing -- Rambling -- January 24, 2026

Locator: 49825HAPPYHOUR.

There seems to be a Texas collective sense of impending dread -- you can blame the weathermen and women. For the past several days there has been an intense mantra that we are about to feel the wrath of Mother Nature from New Mexico to New York (as if the greatest storm in history stops at the New Mexico / Mexico border and anything north of New York doesn't really matter).

This is really, really weird. There is no activity whatsoever -- outside it's dead as a door nail, as we used to say in North Dakota. We're socked in with clouds and, actually, looking outside the window, it appears we are in a cloud. It looks like the typical North Dakota day I remember almost every day between January 2 and February 28.

The only folks going outside are those who have to "take their dog for a walk." A very short walk today, no doubt.

But holy mackerel. It's winter. I grew up in North Dakota where there were months (usually February) when it never got above zero degrees (that needs to be fact-checked but I doubt if I'm too far off). It's supposed to get cold and we're supposed to get snow in winter.

When did things change?

  • with Algore's Nobel Prize?
  • after 9-11?
  • with Obama? 2009 - 2017?
  • during the dot-com bubble? 1995 - 2002
  • with Trump-Fauci-Covid-19?

If I had to name one thing, it might be the death of "happy hour."

And that definitely occurred after Trump-Fauci-Covid-19.

So, I asked ChatGPT.

ChatGPT -- because it's not human -- missed one important aspect of "happy hour" that cannot be fixed with "regularmaxxing." I will come back to this later. What I'm thinking of may be true to some extent but I assume I will get push back on this idea so will hold back on it for now.
