As expected, the boys over at the Bakken Shale Discussion Group are talking about CLR's request to alter the definition of the stratrigraphic limits of the Three Forks formation.
Quick observations:
Quick observations:
- based on these two days of hearings, it's "all" CLR
- definition of stratigraphic limits to change across the Bakken -- it will be interesting to see what the boys have to say about this
- no evidence that current players are down-sizing Bakken spacing units; if anything units are getting bigger; that's good news
- very few cases to revoke previously issue permits -- interesting
- many more cases to settle risk penalty issues -- even more interesting
- 7 wells on one 640-acre unit (Petro-Hunt); 6 wells on each of 2 640-acre units (EOG)
- incredible number of wells per case
- it is impossible to miss the scores of cases in which CLR is requesting that the stratigraphic definition of the Bakken Pool be "redefined." Commentary regarding these cases can be found here.

Yes, I saw that!
DeletePlease can you explain 18860 amend? Alter def?smile .thanks
ReplyDeleteI'm going to let others weigh in on this first. When I find a good explanation I will link it. CLR has been talking about different "benches" below the middle Bakken and below the top sub-formation of the Three Forks. You can see those discussions at their corporate presentations at CLR's website.
DeleteWith so many fields affected, I would assume NDIC will provide a presentation if they approve CLR's requests.
Well, ndic is required by law to do more than put out a presentation.
ReplyDeleteNdic is required to issue an "order" that disposes of the "issue" and has the force of law unless and until it is modified by civil court action down the lIne.
This will be an intereresting case to watch to say the least. Mineral owners who largely do not participate in hearings for a lot of reasons mostly having to do with their lack of familiarity of the process and reluctance to hire legal representation I guess because they really don't know/appreciate the stakes.
Oil cos routinely manipate ndic to the benefit of oil cos. It's not even debatable.
I am aware of few things (except taxes and death) that are not debatable, but I don't have time. Too much exciting stuff to report, and too little time.
